Looking good, Cajuns! When one school makes these upgrades it usually trickles over to other league schools. We all make each other better. And for me, maybe these improvements at other schools forces USA's hand to break ground on their own on-campus stadium.

I agree, it is also rubbing off on other programs near us. La Tech had plans for an end zone facility for 3 years. All of a sudden Louisiana unveils the Master Plan for athletics and break ground on the end zone project and La Tech scales back their project and breaks ground 1.5 months later.

The mid major arms race in the south has begun. UNT started it off, then Houston, Tulane, Louisiana and La Tech. stAte isn't that far behind and Troy has a very nice new basketball arena and nice softball facility.

None of us can compete with aTm or the likes of those programs, but if we can improve the facilities and better the atmosphere on game day then we will continue to improve as a league.

Add TXST and FAU to that list. Even UTA on the basketball side.
Correct, the Cajun Dome will also be getting a $21 million dollar renovation starting this year and fully completed by 2016.

And thankfully not coming out of UL's athletic budget.

Awesome. Some basic revenovations are being done for our basketball such as lighting, locker rooms, and practice courts getiing upgrades. There is also a feasibilty being done to remove the "wall" and add seats/suites.

I think ours has to do with moving sideline seats closer to the court. Since it's a multi purpose event center, is loses some of the small "cage" type arenas that give a team a great home court advantage.

25-30k is perfect....until the constant sellouts (all games over a season) warrant building more.

The money generated from long term leases of suites make the expansion worth it. We are growing/regaining our foothold in Acadiana and that will continue to happen as long as we keep having success.

People forget that we essentially had Louisiana Alumni build TAF and LSU. Dr Ray Authement actively pushed donors away from athletics for 35 years and sent the east. I sat in front of him for a football game after our first Nola Bowl victory and heard him say "That bowl game was the worst thing possible for this university." Those were his exact words. He hates athletics and feels that they take away from the academic side of the university.

What we have done in the last 5 years is just a small fraction of what can eventually happen here. We are in a region that is booming due to the oilfield. We have some extremely wealthy alumni who are just starting to give back to athletics and that is why you see the sudden growth and the explosion of facilities, not just for athletics. close to $750 million dollars of work will be completed within 5 years.

"If you build it they will come."

Capacity after Phase I South End Zone enclosure will be 36,904.

Capacity after Phase II of Cajun Field will be 45,241. The North End Zone will remain grass and will be bowled down the road if needed. Capacity THN would be 50,026.

Phase II does include a matching UD on the east side correct?

I'm pretty sure not. I includes a new west side UD with all the associated five or six level building/office space and the new upper deck press box areas with suites and club levels.

I am pretty sure it does include both UD's. to get to 45K from 36K would require 9K seats; sounds like two 4.5 K upper decks to me, as the current UD only seats about 6K.

Plans are in the works for ULM's end zone facility once the new field turf is installed. Hopefully will happen for 2015. Without the arms race it wouldn't happen.

I see what's happening here. Louisiana is positioning themselves to step up and enter a stronger conference which is admirable. Some other SBC schools making expansions is also very promising. Congrats to all for building for the future. We Jaguar fans will continue to toughen it out in rickity ole Ladd-Peebles until someone in Mobile works a miracle and offers up enough $$$ to build an OCS.

The automatic reaction that the Cajuns are building stuff to position themselves to leave for another conference. That implies they wouldn't bother building things if they weren't positioning themselves to leave for another conference.

Cajun fans, are you going to cancel your construction if you find out you are staying in the Sun Belt permanently?

Packing people's bags before they have a ticket is annoying because it just perpetuates old perceptions of the conference. Why do that when it gains nobody anything.

Almost positive that UCF and USF would disagree with you

So it does somebody in this conference some good to perpetuate the meme that the conference is something everyone wants out of and that it is unstable?

I fail to see how that does anybody any good but I'm listening.

Regardless of whether we are getting out of the conference or staying in, a larger stadium is needed. Providing the first couple of home games are not washed out by hurricanes, you will see crowds over 40,000 each. Chances are we will break attendance records again this year.
