Best (tie)
Even though UC lost both games, I got to see them play in the Orange Bowl and the Sugar Bowl, something I never thought I would see, and in person at that.

I was at that game, and rooted for ISU. They had many UC defectors on that team because Dave Currey was one of the worst coaches in UC history.
UC almost lost to them the year before at the Nip. I was at that game also.

UC @ Oklahoma in 2008. Game sucked, but led to the Tony Pike era at UC after Grutza had his leg destroyed.

The fans at OU were by far the nicest collective group of host fans I have ever met. Of the 80k people around the stadium that day we ran into exactly one *******, and he was immediately called out for it by other OU fans near him. We were offered food and drink every 10 feet we walked. Even the night before the game we ran into a bunch of students at a local bar and they were amazing. Knew our entire 2 deep and wanted to talk about our team and the game.

Actually have another one...any game at West Point on an October Saturday afternoon. Nothing better.

A crisp day at Annapolis is pretty cool too.

Yeah, but none of them seemed to know how to spell CINCINNATI.

Not surprised. LSU fans are the pits.

Agreed. I have lived here for 31 years and graduated from LSU Law School but refuse to attend any LSU games.

LSU fans act like A holes on the road too, at least the ones that havent passed out in their talgate spot before the game. They even act like A holes at baseball games. Its kinda funny

It can get pretty rowdy here. I personally haven't seen any of the horror stories during my time, but I can believe them. If you're with some LSU people though, a better time likely cannot be had. Staying away from the student areas can net you lots of free beer and delicious food. Our department used to throw a sick tailgate; usually about 50+ people in a quiet and shaded part of campus with music, tv, plenty of kegs, pulled pork, gumbo, the works.

In the stands, expect chants riddled with obscenities. I won't defend it, but I'd be lying if I said the place wasn't electric after a good round of "Neck" from the Tiger Band. I've never seen anything quite like it. The Alabama game is going to be nuts this year.

Let's be honest with most of the horror stories. Usually just a hand full of bad apples at any stadium. tone down the super fan attitude when you go on the road. Don't get argument b/c it isn't worth it and avoid students. Don't wave your team flag in front of a guy 10 drinks in.

I've been taking my kids to UCF games since they were born. I can't remember any rude behavior towards visiting fans but I'm not running around with students either.

Best-Notre Dame. Classy fans, unlike what I've experienced by some of the $ec fans I've encountered.

Worse-Hands down missippi fans. The last time the Tigers won in Oxford, we had to encounter thrown whisky and beer bottles (game had to be stopped to clean the bottles off the field). Being cursed at is a norm down in that hell hole. Just a bunch of low class a..holes.

RE: Best (and worst) away game experience
Best Opposing Fan: Have to second subflea here. Oklahoma fans were far and away the best I have been around at an away game. Partied the night before at the bars, doing UC cheers with UC fans throughout and Oklahoma fans kept coming up to us, talking to us about our team, about the year, about how they thought we could win the conference. They knew the roster. We got invited to multiple tailgates by multiple sets of fans. Even after the loss we were walking to go back to the bars and we got called over to a couple post game tailgates and just hung out and drank with them. Just an awesome experience.

Worst Opposing Fans: Well the worst I've experienced was not even college it was the Browns fans at Cleveland Browns stadium. On my way to the tailgate where I was meeting some Bengals and Browns fans I knew from OSU, I had a beer dumped on me out of nowhere. At the game I was cursed at as I walked in and at the game throughout. Just the most miserable group of fans imaginable.

Worst College Fans: Makes sense, but Ohio State had a similar feel (and a lot of those guys are Browns fans so you know).

MLB mentioned Pitt. I think back to that game and I do remember these like 13 year olds behind us just cursing at us and saying ridiculous stuff and we really weren't going to do anything because they were kids. The thing is, the end of that game was so awesome I don't even think about it anymore. I do remember offering to high five the Pitt fans around us who had been jerks as they left the stadium. (Of Note Steelers fans were awful when I was in Pittsburgh, but it was another game where the Bengals won in amazing fashion and I had the last laugh) Which Brings me too...

Best Game: UC v. Pitt, 2009.

Most Surprising Fan Experience: West Virginia. I was prepared for the worst. Heard so many insane, horror stories about trips to Morgantown. On the drive to the tailgate we drove through some student housing and got some profanity laced "Go back to Cincy" comments. And then we got to the tailgate, a huge group of WVU fans invited us over and we partied with them until kickoff. At the game we sat near some very nice WVU fans. UC won the game in insane fashion, blowing a late 11 point lead inside of 2 minutes (including an onside kick recovered and then a 54 yd field goal) only to win in OT. After the game we went to the bar, immediately some WVU fans called us over, we hung out with them and they bought us beers all night. Great times.

Favorite Away Fan Look: The sun dresses at NC State.

I have said this before...usually to consternation from my fellow UC faithful... I have lived in West Virginia for more than 10 years--9 years down by Charleston and now in Morgantown for a year-and-a-half. In both locations, I wore my UC gear and never had much of a problem with it. Especially in 2008 and 2009, the WVU fans were, on the whole, grudgingly respectful of it. (I actually had one guy come up to me in a Walmart when I was wearing my UC hoodie just before the Pitt game... I thought "Oh man, here we go..." but he was smiling, shook my hand, and said "Beat Pitt! If we can't win the conference, UC should!")

IF...if you have to come to a game up in Morgantown, this is what I advise. Stay clear of the "Blue Lot." That's where the serious drunken behavior takes place and that's where 95% of the problems are. But even there, ***MOST*** West Virginians are nice enough people if you don't go and insult the State or it's people. If you say something like "Hey, this is a pretty nice place..." you will win yourself A LOT of friends right off the bat. Come in with a chip on your shoulder or a superiority complex and you'll find the jerks.

But WVU has been working hard on it's Public face and encouraging a culture of sportsmanship among the students and alumni. There is a very low tolerance for crappy behavior and people are routinely getting arrested and/or kicked out of the venues for abusive behavior...and it's by-and-large other WVU fans who are pointing the jerks out and summoning the Police or ushers.

Not that it's a "classy" place to visit... I'm not sure it will ever be "classy" in a strict-sense. But it is fun and unpretentious place, and they will make you feel at home if you let them.

It was the snooty old Big East schools and most of the C7 that gave West Virginia a bad rap. As a friendly UCONN fan, I've only had good experiences with their fan-base.

If you are refering to education - it's not up to a state or even a University to motivate you to learn and look to your future; that is all on you. If you want a safe, friendly place with ample opportunity to suceed WV has it.

LOL... Because, you know Louisiana rates at the top of so many lists...

But I digress. As a State West Virginia has challenges. But this wasn't a thread about States... It was about FB venues. And it wasn't even about WVU, my point was merely that WVU can be a decent place.

As for the BE unfairly "tagging" WVU... Uh, no...I won't go there either. WVU fans have largely earned their reputation for being terrible in the past. Some of those things, like most places, depend on the opponent. WVU vs. Pitt and WVU vs. VaTech...in particular... had the reputation for egregious fan behavior. Those things really have happened and it's not any "snooty" BE bias. In later years, WVU vs. Louisville had started to develop a nasty reputation. WVU vs. Marshall...even though they don't play in FB anymore... is pretty bad. Certain opponents bring out strong emotions in every school's fanbase, and WVU fans had a well-deserved reputation for being boorish in the extreme towards Pitt, VaTech, and Marshall. And when you are in a culture (WV culture) that tends to favor brashness crossed with unkemptness... Well, it can become a circus quickly.

But WVU recognized that they had a major problem and have been moving to address that problem.

I can concur with this as well. Oklahoma played a game in Louisville in 95 or 96, and had the same experience. The came with grills that were trailors, and were cooking all night before the game.

I agree with the previous UConn poster when it comes to WVU fans. UConn fans and WVU fans have gotten along quite well. Both fan bases seem to have a mutual respect for each other.

I can't go there. I have had several experiences with West Virginia fans. Three times at Louisville games, three at WV games (once vs Louisville, Pitt, and Maryland) and twice at Maryland. And to a T, the large majority of them were unruly, rude, and downright embarrassing to their fanbase. Especially the ones who travelled to the opponent's places, which is odd because at most schools, the travelers are among the best fans.

THIS.

I concur with Corbett... For some strange reason, the WVU traveling base actually behaves worse on the road...

The traveling base would be.....on the road. I, for one, am not unruly, rude and downright embarrassing to the fanbase. And I would say most WVU fans are not. But those that are, do stick out far more than those that are not.
