Completely agree.

RE: NBR: Most selective school in each state
Any Post Secondary school is as limited in what it can accomplish by the abilities of its students to handle a curriculum. GENERALLY, the lower the academic abilities of incoming and resident students, the less a school can accomplish with them, and the faculty must make the necessary adjustments to keep them in school and paying the charges.

That is why UA & UAB like to brag about the number of Merit Scholarship students it enrolls each year. They hope to imply that the whole school is thereby elevated academically.

If, on the other hand, a school brings in a large number of academically challenged students (as many small private PS schools do), it is more than likely going to have to deal with greater social as well as academic issues the larger schools avoid.

Post #13 was concerned with Elementary and Secondary schools. The second deals with Post Secondary education - 2 and 4 year schools. As I pointed out, the state's rules are different for the two levels. K-12 is supportive and embracing while Post Secondary is competitive and exclusive. K-12 tries to get all to suceed while Post Secondary demands that at least 1/3 to 1/4 MUST fail.

Right...completely unrelated derailment...again
