Crenshaw is a good guy. I hope it's him or somebody else I like..........whoever it is will have some big shoes to fill!

Maybe if he had toned down the integrity and talent just a little, we'd still have him.

Because they eventually found him worthy to cover that program.

Congrats to Drew.

His new job description demands that I immediately unfollow him on Twitter. Blechhh...

If I were assigned to follow bammer recruiting, here's how I would do it. I would subscribe to TiderInsider, as Rodney Orr is the best out there. Sure beats chasing 5-star headcases in cyberspace. Then, there are at least 4 other paid bammer recruiting sites, that follow it closely (Alabama Rivals, Alabama Scout, Alabama 247, ESPN's Alabama recruiting site).

Why do you think he needed to take it? Or better...why is it a promotion?

(Note: I'm not blaming him for taking it, but he wouldn't need to if we UAB fans made ourselves a bigger deal. We're our own worst enemy.)

News flash: Alabama is a more popular school than UAB. Covering more popular schools is considered a promotion

He was not given a choice in the matter from what I understand. Drew enjoyed covering UAB and Samford. I think Crenshaw will be fine.

I am in full agreement of what I put in bold.

Not me, either.

With all due respect to Drew, the subject matter he covers went from something I care about a great deal to something that makes my skin crawl.

News flash: Alabama is a more popular school than UAB. Covering more popular schools is considered a promotion

I'm well aware of the popularity of that school, and I'm not suggesting it isn't a promotion. I am saying that we can improve our own stock by showing that we are a larger and more dedicated fan base than we get credit for. Eventually, that outpouring will make us a great school to work for/cover/follow/attend for future employees, students, and/or athletes.

On this board, some UAB fans in the past have claimed that clicking links and commenting on al.com articles is pointless. The same idea has been applied to calling radio shows. My argument is that we will never improve our lot until we show numbers and dedication to these tasks. Could we have saved Drew? No. Someday, could we be a more desirable school to be associated with? Yes.

You don't have to do anything with articles and radio shows (and such), but if none of us do anything, we'll always get what we've always gotten from them. I'd like to see us advance and grow our reputation in a positive way - not just sit back and take our place that is decided by someone else.

If Solomon Crenshaw, Jr is our man, he has already experienced the "filling of big shoes" with coming after his father, Solomon Crenshaw, Sr. His dad was one of the finest leaders the West End community ever had and served WEHS well as President of our PTA for a number of years while his son was one of our finest students in the 70s. That decade in particular was a special time for WEHS with many outstanding students who became doctors, lawyers, nurses, journalists and other such exceptional professionals.

Even if he was given a choice, it would be almost ludicrous for him not to take it. It certainly pays more. And he hasn't exactly covered highlight years for UAB's two major programs while he has been here.

I will be surprised if it isn't him. Thanks for the information on his dad........sounded like a great man!
