How good is LSU? They're in the SEC, which isn't really known for basketball (sans Kentucky), but they're still a P5 team.

RE: 2014-15 Basketball Schedule
I'm sure Bruce Hornsby will be there for the match-up against LSU. Although he's somewhat of an ODU fan, his son Keith will be eligible to play this year for LSU after sitting out last year due to transferring from UNC-Asheville after the '12-'13 season and I'm sure he'll be rooting for LSU....

LSU is very good, likely a tournament team next season.

I'm not sure who LSU lost from last years team, but I was able to see them play a lulls of times last year. They have the talent to embarrass us if we are not on our a game.

I read they've lost 3 players to transfer, not sure how that'll affect them though.

They also lost Johnny O'Bryant to the NBA draft. One of the kids transferring was a 2 or 3 year starter( a guard listed at 5'11" but really about 5'9"). They brought in a PG that was a tremendous scorer in JUCO and Hornsby will probably start at the 2. LSU coach was at the Booplex this weekend. Had a son playing for some team.

RE: 2014-15 Basketball Schedule
We need to schedule a couple of worthy games on the road. This schedule isn't going to cut it in the outside chance that it could matter.

I'm all for scheduling some of our old CAA foes, but I don't know if we need to recreate the old CAA schedule with our non-conference slate...

I agree with this.
VCU is the only one we should absolutely continue with.

Others to consider:
W&M because of tradition and likely local interest.
Mason because it is an in-state A10 team.

The rest; bah.

It serves a few purposes: keeping travel costs relatively low, keeping up with old rivalries, playing teams our fans are interested in watching & able to travel to see, and scheduling teams that help/don't hurt our RPI. With most conference games requiring flights and extensive travel, I have no problem balancing the non-con schedule with some former conference mates. It would be nice, however, to see a Big East or ACC team at home each year, but I understand arranging home/home with P6 are usually harder to come by.
