If there is a 3 way tie in pool play, the highest seed will advance to the championship game (link).

Pool A is so much easier. UCF might lose to UConn on the first day.

Interesting that Louisville took the bye at the beginning of the week. UCF might have a chance to pitch Skoglund twice (if they make it that far) this way. That would be our ONLY chance anyways.

I'd venture to guess that yes, the attendance at ECU would be better, but I sort of like having a neutral site vacation locale to have the tournament at.

UCONN did win the Big East tournament last year as an 8 seed. 04-rock They've been injury plagued this year, but anything is possible during a tournament.

So we have four players in the HR derby that haven't hit a homerun all season? One batting .156 with only 3RBI?

There must not be a lot of interest among the players for that competition.

Rob, I noticed that as well.. Half the field in the Derby had as many HR's this season as I did. Yikes!

Which is just another reason why pool play is dumb.

I doubt Skoglund will give up 8 hits and 5 earned runs in two straight outings. Even in that loss, he only had one truly bad inning (and Rooney left him in too long). If he's the competitor he seems to be, I bet he was very glad to get another shot at UConn so quickly.

Agreed. Pool play is far less fun than double-elimination, and leads to meaningless games. I understand why they do pool play, to avoid double-headers and help save pitching arms for the Regional teams the next week, but nothing beats the "win or go home" excitement of D-E.

Personally, I think the tournament should be a 6-team double-elimination format. Top two teams get a bye on the 1st day. If the 1 or 2 seed wins the tournament without losing, they only play 3 games, just like a weekend series.

It would really be embarrassing to do that in front of an empty stadium. Who's going to show up for that aside from a few parents?

EXCELLENT reasons, in my opinion. At this point, the AAC needs to do everything possible to increase our chances at a deep run in Omaha. It's smart to put that ahead of fan entertainment value. Until more of our fans show enough interest to actually attend the AAC championship tournament, they don't have much room to complain. I AM here, by the way, pool play and all, and having a great time - highly recommend it for vacation and college athletics fun.
