Exclamation Dri Archer to be used in multiple roles with Steelers
LINK

Quote:In one of the more intriguing strategic subplots to the 2014 season, Steelers rookie third round pick Dri Archer says he'll be lining up in a variety of spots, including fullback and H-back.

Quote:The notion of the 173-pound Archer lining up ahead of Le'Veon Bell in a power-I formation is comical and seemingly more fit for an experimental formation in Madden 2014, but the idea is more using him to divide and pressure defenses. Typically, a larger linebacker is going to have responsibility for the fullback, when one is on the field. Same would go for an H-back. The presence of a player fitting approximately none of the stereotypical traits of an NFL fullback will force opposing defenses into conflict.

He's not what you would think of as an H-back in Gibbs system for the Redskins ... the H-back position would seems more like relying on his speed to be able to cover a lot of traditional slot receiver routes from closer to the offensive line while also increasing the threat of crossing over to the other side.

And I wonder how many of the fullback responsibilities would also be assuming his speed lets him threaten routes to either side of the line.

He's obviously not what you'd think of as a blocking fullback, though with as many screens as the Steelers have been throwing, it may be that the speed to get out in the right place to put in a block without showing it prior to the snap could be of some use ...

... but if he plays any appreciable number of times in a fullback position, its going to get noticed as something different.

I was hoping the Lions would have drafted him but they had no draft pick late in the 3rd round.

My fantasy would have been: Calvin Johnson, Golden Tate, Reggie Bush, Eric Ebron and Dri Archer.

I'd love to see these fine receivers in single coverage. :)

That would have suited me fine, I'm a Bungals fan, and it'll be a weird feeling rooting for the linebacker or defensive back to stuff his possession when he gets the ball.
