So, my local indie radio station FINALLY got web streaming up. They have what you typically only get on pirate radio ... in particular:
- Real DJs who take you on a journey and give you background and info on what they play
- A catalog with more depth than just the Billboard charts
- Unusual stuff ... like the Acoustic Storm where it is nothing but unplugged and live for a few hours. (If you fire this link up shortly after I posted this ... you're in the Acoustic Storm)
- Indie bands
- "Non-radio cut" songs ... I don't think I've heard them play the full 2112 or Karn Evil 9 ... but they don't play the 4 minute cuts.
The local indie is WXRC 95.7 FM The Ride.

Here's a few others I've found in my travels, though none as elite as the former:
Rock 105 ... El Paso, TX ... a Mexico blaster station into the Southern US

95.7 WQUL ... Woodruff, SC ... one of the VERY VERY few micro-power FM stations. 250 watts Class D. You can broadcast at 8 times that power as an amateur radio operator. These are like unicorns. This is a FM simulcast of an older AM station ... and it is literally whatever the hell the mom-and-pop owners wanna play (usually 60/70/80/90's mainstream). You'll hear some real southern Main Street USA stuff on this station like broadcasting the local high school football games and being yet another in the seemingly infinite membership roster of the Atlanta Braves Radio Network.

The "Name FM" stations are probably the best of the major syndicated stations. It is partially a ploy to eliminate to DJs and partially a step towards competing against online streaming and indie stations. Perhaps the best of these is Jack FM in LA.
