MyBB Former UH basketball player Thomas to Oklahoma
Former University of Houston forward TaShawn Thomas said Sunday he plans to transfer to Oklahoma.

Thomas was granted his conditional release from UH program in April following the hiring of coach Kelvin Sampson.

He picked the Sooners over Miami (Fla.).

"It was a tough choice," Thomas said. "I feel I could have made a good decision with either one. I felt like Oklahoma was the best choice for me with only one year left."

Thomas led the Cougars in scoring (15.4) and rebounding (8.1) and was a second-team American Athletic Conference selection last season.

Thomas plans to appeal to play immediately next season.

"If I have to sit out, I have no problem with that," he said.

Terrible decision by a kid with bad influences in his ear looking to take the easy way out.

Best of luck to him otherwise.

ESPN reporting Thomas will "likely" have to sit out this season...

Let's see... Having the opportunity to play for a connected former NBA coach who is tight with the local franchise and James Harden versus sitting a year to play out of state...???

RE: Former UH basketball player Thomas to Oklahoma
as a hosuton fan we all want to believe anyone leaving is making a bad decison but House leaiving might actually be a very good decision for him depending on where he lands

thomas is just a plain bad decision. he was the star player at houston and coming into the season hyped up, he only has 1 year left. so he goes to another school to sit out a year (lose his hype) to join a team he might not even start at and for just 1 year

Had Houston done nothing about improving its poor current coaching staff, than yes, Thomas and House not leaving would of been a bad decision.

But when Hoston finally hires a coach of Sampson's caliber... Hmmm... Head scratcher, IMO.

Anyhow, good luck to both.

This was such a bone headed move on TT's part. However, I wonder if he got "scared" about Coach Sampson's demand of his players playing competitively. And, if that's the case, then I truly am very disappointed Thomas for a different reason. At any rate, I don't see how it reflects as a positive in his situation.

You are smoking rock again.

The had the highest Player Efficiency Rating in CUSA his last year there and the highest in the AAC last year.

1. TaShawn Thomas Houston 27.3
2. Sean Kilpatrick Cincinnati 26.2
3. Russ Smith Louisville 26.2
4. Justin Jackson Cincinnati 25.8
5. Markus Kennedy SMU 25.8
6. Montrezl Harrell Louisville 25.7
7. Shabazz Napier Connecticut 25.5
8. Isaiah Sykes UCF 21.6
9. Will Cummings Temple 21.0
10. Kadeem Jack Rutgers 20.8
11. Shaq Goodwin Memphis 20.5
12. Luke Hancock Louisville 20.4
13. Michael Dixon Memphis 20.2
14. DeAndre Daniels Connecticut 20.0
15. Myles Mack Rutgers 19.8
16. Nic Moore SMU 19.6
17. Anthony Lee Temple 19.5
18. Tristan Spurlock UCF 18.9
19. Dalton Pepper Temple 18.5
20. Joe Jackson Memphis 18.4

You don't just fake the kind of productivity per minute he had and do it at one of the toughest positions. There is little doubt he will be a starter and important piece where ever he lands.

The actual wording that the poster used was:

"thomas is just a plain bad decision."

He was talking about Thomas' bad decision to transfer out of Houston, rather than Thomas being a bad player. I actually agree with the poster, because Thomas only had one year to go and he was about to play for a better coach than what was previously at Houston.

ECU fans understand how the Houston fans feel about the Thomas decision, because Robert Sampson did the very same thing just last year. One year to go at ECU, but instead of finishing his final season; Sampson transferred to Georgia Tech. It is just another one of those mystery transfers that on it's surface appears to be just a really bad decision.

RE: Former UH basketball player Thomas to Oklahoma
It said bad, he edited it after. I don't know who they got but either way the guy should have no problem starting or being a major piece at Oklahoma as a senior and could very well end up being one of the best players in the Big 12 given his history. He averaged 16ppg 8rpg 3bpg and shot 59% in the AAC last year.

He'll be playing for a great coach that was actually a head coach in the NBA as well and is much better player than Robert Sampson and is going to a higher profile program that will play on national TV and with a coach that's not on the hotseat and fired like Sampson's guy just was.

Houston has basically no basketball talent now. All they got this past class was a bunch of JUCOs with no other offers. Some UH fans are gonna be pretty disappointed next year.

I'm just being honest. Tubby Smith faced the same issues at Tech. Half the UH fan base expects at least a tournament birth next year even though they lost their best players and didn't have a good chance to recruit.
