***2014 CUSA BASEBALL TOURNAMENT OFFICIAL THREAD***
Rice is definitely the No. 1 seed with UAB and USM apparently the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds. If ODU, UTSA, MTSU and FIU all wind up at 17-13 when the day is over, who will be seeded No. 4, No. 5, No. 6 and No. 7? Right now ODU is 17-13 and UTSA, MTSU, and FIU are all three at 16-13, and it looks like:
1. Rice
2. UAB
3. USM
4. ODU
5. UTSA
6. MTSU
7. FIU
8. ECU
Anybody got a clue?

well ECU just beat UTSA on a walk off bunt. So both of us finish at 16-14.
I believe the first tiebreaker is record against the top seed. so you need to look how each team did against Rice in the regular season. then you probably get into a head to head deal after that.

RE: C-USA Baseball Tournament Seeding
edit that....
record against the top seed comes into play if 2 teams are tied and they didn't play each other during the regular season.
if more than 2 teams are tied with each other, record against the others is probably the first tie breaker.

ODU won the series with FIU, but lost the series with MTSU. MTSU also won the series with FIU. So, if MTSU and FIU both win today, it would be:
4. MTSU
5. ODU
6. FIU
7. UTSA
Does that look right?

ECU is guaranteed the 6th or 7th seed.

One thing's for certain. There has been confusion on tiebreaking scenarios in all 3 of our major sports. The conference needs to make the rules known and clear.

I think you have 4, 5 and 6 right. Because MTSU would be 4-2 against the other 2; ODU 3-3 against the other 2; FIU 2-4 against the other 2;
ECU would be 7th, UTSA would be 8th.
that's if both FIU and MTSU win today

I think UTSA will be the eight. Dropped too many series in 2nd part of season

Tulane beat FIU, so unless I am mistaken we are set except for 4 and 5, and that hinges on the MTSU-Marshall game.
1. Rice
2. UAB
3. USM
4/5. ODU/MTSU?
6. FIU
7. ECU
8 UTSA

3 team tiebreaker at the bottom where the 3 teams all didn't play each other. because FIU and UTSA didn't play each other.
so I guess the tiebreaker went to record against the top seed. ECU was 2-1 against Rice so ECU gets the 6 seed. UTSA 1-2 against Rice and FIU swept by Rice.

Can we assume USM will be in the evening bracket the first two days (so that would mean 1/4/7/8 in the early games those days)?

UAB gets UTSA. Tough. Lots of parity outside of obvious front runner Rice.

Not completely correct. The winner of the 2 early games on Day 1 meet in the 3rd game on Day 2. The losers of games 3 and 4 on Day 1 meet in the 2nd game on Day 2...example: Loser of USM-ECU in game 4 of Day 1 play the 12:30 game on Thursday.

Almost total parity if you look at the numbers. And FIU matches up well against Rice in the opener with CUSA's #1 starter statistically, Mike Franco, on the mound...and with Rice likely having to go with either our #4 McDowell or McCanna. Rice beat FIU and Franco (no decision) back in March, but he gave up only 3 hits and 1 unearned run in that game, and we had Lemond on the mound as starter matching him pitch to pitch, strikeout to strikeout....and still only won 3-2 in 11 innings.
