Sometimes loser does pay
This is one of the few legal battles wherein the defendant, Ringling Bros, choose not to settle a frivolous claim made by animal rights groups. Most often, the defendant settles in order to avoid prolonged litigation and possible damage to their image. Not only did Ringling win their case, they were awarded damages of $16 million from the Humane Society and $9 million from the AISPCA. Seems that the plaintiffs paid a whistle blower who perjured himself.
We need more of these results to put a damper on the trial bar instituting suits with no risk of loss.
Oh and when the AISPCA runs those TV spots asking for money for the poor abused puppies, ask them how much of their funds were allocated to the settlement.

RE: Sometimes loser does pay
I was going to ask where these animal rights groups get the money to pay off these settlements and got my answer here:
As for the settlement, he declined to say what portion of it was paid by the Humane Society but said he expects it to be covered by insurance and ultimately that "we are not in the end going to give a dime to Feld."
I'm more convinced than ever that these groups are actually a money making business for the people at the top of the food chain, everyone below them are either gullible, bleeding hearts, or just losers.
