T & F Championships - Day 2 (Roper to run 10K at 8:45 p.m.)
Not a great start to Day 2, as Decathlon favorite Scott Filip has withdrawn due to a severe groin injury.
Just a reminder, Cali Roper will be running the 10K tonight at 8:45. In the event the baseball game is in hand, please stroll on over and cheer for our runners!

Rice men did much, much better than expected in the 10K, finishing 4th, 6th and 7th (John Cavallo, Adam Davidson and Maron Fessahaie).
Cali Roper broke away with about 2000 meters to go to win the women's 10K going away.

Looks like the women are 3rd and the men are 4th heading into the final day. We did have a couple of champs today (Pillow in men's pole vault and Heather Olson in women's steeplecase), and a 2nd by Claire Uke in the women's discus, but I'm not sure if it was a great day or not. We still don't seem to be getting many qualifiers into the finals of the various running events (by my count, we had just 2 men (1 in 1500, 1 in 110HH) and 4 women (all in 1500). I don't know if that is about as predicted or not, but I sure miss the old SWC days when we routinely would qualify 10-15 athletes or so into the various finals.
We should have several more individual champs Sunday I imagine - WRC can provide more details later I'm sure.
