RE: Predict Your School's Record (2014)
This is nothing new. I would venture to say that over 90% of ECU fans are homers and blinded by the gold and purple. That's usually a result of them fielding decently competitive teams year in and year out - as of late - so you can't really fault them too much for it.

An ECU poster even started a Predict the C-USA Champion for 2013 thread in the C-USA board last year and every single Pirate fan who contributed selected ECU as the champion. As we all know, ECU didn't even make the title game as Rice beat Marshall for the championship.

This exchange between a Marshall and ECU fan sheds light on their homerism. The thread was about the UCF-Marshall game in Huntington.

Go HERD !!!

ECU football joined C-USA in 1997 and won exactly 2 championships over 17 seasons as member of the league (2008, 2009). In their 17 seasons, ECU had a winning record 9 times, a losing record 7 times, and a 6-6 record once.

During their time in C-USA, ECU appeared in 10 bowl games, compiling a 3-7 record with wins over 7-6 Texas Tech, 10-3 Boise State, and 7-6 Ohio.

The 10-win season last year was ECU's first double-digit win season during their time in C-USA and only the second time in the school's history they reached that mark as they went 11-1 in 1991 as an FBS Independent.

You can argue that their back-to-back championship seasons in 2008 and 2009 is what got their fans this way as they were all bark and no bite before then but the two rings somewhat legitimized them going forward.

C-USA Division Championships:

4 UCF (2005, 2007*, 2010*, 2012)
4 Tulsa (2005*, 2007, 2008, 2012*)
3 Houston (2006*, 2009, 2011)
2 ECU (2008*, 2009*)
2 Southern Miss (2006, 2011*)
1 SMU (2010)
1 Rice (2013*)
1 Marshall (2013)

*Won Conference Championship

A few thing, first it's Purple and Gold, not the other way around.

Second, competive teams year in and year out, "as of late"? Where have you been?
All bark and no bite? Please, check your history again.

1997 5-6, 4-2 in CUSA 2nd
1998 6-5, 3-3 in CUSA T-3rd
1999 9-3, 4-2 in CUSA 2nd (5-0 against BCS AQ's)
2000 8-4, 5-2 in CUSA 2nd
2001 6-6, 5-2 in CUSA 3rd
2002 4-8, 4-4 in CUSA 6th
2003 1-11, 1-7 in CUSA 8th JT era
2004 2-10, 2-6 in CUSA 7th JT era
2005 5-6, 4-4 in CUSA 3rd, 2nd East
2006 7-6, 5-3 in CUSA 3rd, 2nd East
2007 8-5, 6-2 in CUSA 3rd, 2nd East
2008 9-5, 6-2 in CUSA 1st
2009 10*-4, 7-1 in CUSA 1st *( UNC vacated win, I don't count wins for cheaters)
2010 6-7, 5-3 in USA 4th, 2nd East
2011 5-7, 4-4 in CUSA 5th, 4th East
2012 8-5, 7-1 in CUSA 3rd, 2nd East
2013 10-3, 6-2 in CUSA 3rd, 2nd East

Pre-CCG finish 2nd twice, 3rd twice 6 or worse 3 times

2005-2013, no worse than 5th overal and won twice. Divisional standings, 1st twice, 2nd 6 times, 4th once. That looks like being in the hunt for the title more times than not.07-coffee3

We aren't saying we are world beaters, but since joining we've been in the top 3-4 teams most years. We've choked several bowls games away, Marshall 2001, UK 2008, Ark. 2009 and had a few bad match ups. Maryland 2010, we should been in Nola, but went to the Military bowl, Maryland shouldn't have been in that bowl being 3rd in the ACC. But, it was BB's last year at FSU, so that jumped UNC and Maryland, UNC went to to Charlotte to prevent a rematch with ECU. But, we are the ONLY team batting 1000 in championship games.05-stirthepot

Many fill that we are being slighted too much for being stuck in CUSA and not being taken seriously coming off a 10 win season. Yes, CUSA sucked, but outside 2 games we beat all them, destroyed most. Beat USM by 41, Tulsa 34, FIU 21, UNC 24, UAB 49, even FAU was 31-6 till the last minute of the game, ended 31-13. Some of those margins are just silly. We are confident, a few are cocky.

RE: Predict Your School's Record (2014)
I noticed you skipped right over the prediction part which is the basis for this thread and my response.

It's good to be confident and it doesn't bother me one bit since clearly UCF has reason to be confident year in and year out as well. Just look at our trophy case and ring collection. It's good to provide some history for the people on this board to really understand where the predictions come from, blind or not.

As for being in the Top 3-4 teams in C-USA most years, well, so were UCF, Houston, and Tulsa. That doesn't stop some of your fans from disparaging those teams. Again, don't tell me, tell the rest of the fans on this board who are actually arguing with the ECU fans. I'll watch from the trophy case while you kids bicker.

Ah, you made no predictions in the quoted post. I haven't seen disparaging UCF, UH or even Tulsa. As far as trophies go, only USM has more CUSA titles at 5, UCF and Tulsa have 2, the same as ECU. Don't worry we have plenty of torphies, 2 CUSA titles, 7 total conference titles, and 9 bowl trophies, including a Liberty bowl and Peach bowl. No, no Fiesta Bowl, but we have 9, that's 3 more than UCF has played in.

ECU, where the reserves are always better than the first string, and the results do not tell the whole story! Gets old people, gets real old.

UH also had 2 with 1 shared. USM has 5 with 1 shared. But UH represented the conference as champion in the Liberty Bowl in 1996 because we beat USM.

So if you don't say shared titles, it would be more accurate to say USM has 4 and UH has 2.
