Because its an incentive that works.
Not everyone is motivated by money.
Everybody is motivated by more money if you have goals because more money gives you more room to breathe, unless you make so much that a raise wouldn't make a difference.
I don't know about you but time is more important to me than money. I'm going to give up coaching next year so I can spend time with my two year old daughter. I'm giving up 6k extra a year so I can have weekends off.
Would you be more motivated if you were offered $6,000.00 more per year teaching? You never said anything about more money and time vs family. In that case, I think any family man would deny money. I turned down a supervisory position at Baker Hughes in Brighton, CO in January 2012 because I refuse to leave my kids behind. That would have been about $40,000.00 MORE per year for me. Instead I decided to continue struggling month to month paying for everything I have by myself. In 2006, I turned down $10.00 more per hour because it meant transferring up to Cleveland, Oklahoma while I was a Supervisor at Superior Well Services (another oilfield fracturing company).

Non sequitur. What you are really stating is 'I making enough money to where I can value time over money.' Besides, if money doesn't matter, why do I have to deal with new SPLOT's votes and increases to my millage rate for education?

In fairness, that's your daughter and that motivation is higher than your paycheck. It isn't what we are talking about though.

Time is more important than money...unless you are flat ass broke. Having money affords you the option to make choices. When you are broke? Not so much.

Is there a point where money is not a motivator?..Yes. Most of us never reach that plateau.

I read at a High School Senior level in Middle School. But I also had parents that pushed me to be a Straight A student.
A lot of parents and, by extension, children, just don't give a ****.
I'd say you had a pretty firm grasp of the issue.
Parents who don't value education will have children that don't value education.
Figure out how to break THAT cycle, and I'll vote for you.

Why do conservatives only think of money?
Why don't liberals care about results?

Why do conservatives only think of money?
You mean liberals don't? Conservatives think about earning money and keeping it which leads liberals to conjure up creative ways to take it without doing anything to earn it. Both sides think of money.
