RE: Unconventional Recruiting
Watching his video on Hudl, he seems very comfortable in the pocket - his feet are not jittery and he does a good job of keeping eyes downfield and stepping away from pressure, looks natural, granted the level of competition is not very high. He seems athletic enough to make big pass plays off scrambles, though not a real running threat like the QB's we've had recently, more of a pro-style QB for sure but with good mobility. Seems very accurate and in several plays appears to go through reads/progressions well. Lots of deep balls that he won't be able to get away with at college level, I don't think, but he shows very good touch on all throws.

RE: Unconventional Recruiting
Found this scouting report on the net. Encouraging to hear that he looks pretty good right now but "has chance to really blossom."

OVERALL TRAITS
Size-Strength-Mobility
Is a really good looking prospect physically. Possesses ideal height and an athletic build that is still somewhat of a late bloomer in terms of physical maturity. Has a chance to really blossom. While he is a pocket passer, he possesses sneaky athleticism and very savvy pocket movement with better than average speed for the position. He's not a significant threat to run, but he can keep plays alive.
Mental-Makeup
Is a really crafty player with his feet. Navigates the pocket very well and can evade the rush on a consistent basis. Will buy a second passing chances for second reaction throws and generally does a nice job of keeping his eyes downfield to dump the ball off at the last moment when flushed. Operates the scheme well and plays within himself. There are times when he holds on to the ball too long. Can get locked onto initial target. Needs to work through progressions faster get the ball out of his hand.
Accuracy
Fairly consistent in this area. Does not always place the ball in an ease of transition spot for the target, but the ball is generally within his frame work so that the target can make a play. Feet and a eyes are not always in sync and he must do a better job of getting sat on a balanced platform to transfer weight and step into his throws with a proper follow through.
Release/Arm Strength
Possesses both touch and zip on his throws. Would like to see a little more juice on intermediate level throws and that require some power. This is an area where he may be a little bit limited. Arm strength is above average and when on time he is capable of making the necessary throws to short and intermediate ranges. Has a unique delivery method. Release point is at 3/4 with a slight push appearance. What's interesting is that he doesn't follow through. Arm motion only goes so far. This can limit the amount of power he gets on the ball particularly on vertical throws. Looks like he's capable of more.
Bottom Line
Granato is probably falling under the radar to some degree. Possesses an interesting skill set and blend of passing prowess and athleticism. Is that the developmental stages and has a few technical quirks, but this is a prospect that mid-majors should be paying close attention to. Could possibly end up seeing some bottom tier program attention of the top five conferences.
Junior Eval
STRENGTHS: He has great size and efficient foot speed for a young player, giving him a nice foundation to build off of as a prospect. He has good accuracy on short-range throws, and has shown to have the poise to be a good decision-maker, even with the pass rush in his face. ... AREAS OF IMPROVEMENT: The intermediate and deep throws have very little velocity on them, which means they often end up behind the receiver or a few yards too short. His release is a bit slow, hindering his velocity and ability to put the ball into a tight window without turning it over. ... BOTTOM LINE: Granato still has a long way to go as a prospect, but he has the physical talents to play down the road at the college level once he improves his arm strength and slow release. He is a natural leader with enough athleticism to make plays in college.

RE: Unconventional Recruiting
What stood out to me are accuracy throwing on the run and pocket feel/keeping eyes downfield despite onrushers. Advanced in those areas. He does seem to "push" the ball a bit, as the report mentions.

We can and should discount the level of competition, but look at the tape, he rarely if ever has a clean pocket (except for the quick fade throws). He did have a couple superior receivers to throw to though, which means he could just quickly launch it downfield.

1560 already has the broadcast rights for Rice, although I do not know how long the recurrent contract extends.
