Exclamation Parking fee going up for football?
On the season ticket commercial for the fan plan, it says the Fan Plan costs $70 and gets you $24 in concession vouchers, $20 in Rocky's Locker gift card, and $60 in free parking. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't parking used to be $5?

Yes, $5. Parking must be going up to $10.

I'm hoping that's a mistake. I'm guessing $5 is what other MAC schools charge.

RE: Parking fee going up for football?
I have this uneasy feeling that with the study being undertaken to evaluate the UT Athletic Dept. We will see many different increases in prices for things. I would not mind seeing prices increase if we were to change conferences but to see that same old MAC teams, no way. MOB and staff have to be real careful not to out price the product. Love the Rockets but I feel we are in a little bit of a bind with costs, revenue, institutional support and the leagues value at this time. Be interesting to see what happens with our new president. Hoping for the best. Go Rockets.

100% is a big increase; however, aside from doubling the revenue (per car at least) I suspect that they figured $10 would be a lot quicker to collect and cause a lot less delay and trouble making change than charging say $7 or $7.50 which could cause traffic to back up and would require extra preparation to ensure all the people collecting the fee would have enough $1's in advance to be able to make change.

So as long as they were going to increase the parking fee, going $10 actually makes sense.

The parking fee has been $5 since, at least, the mid 80's when I was a Freshman. I remember paying $10 at bg last fall.

Paid $50 to park at Ann Arbor Pioneer HS for the Winter Classic.

$10 doesn't seem so bad.

I understand a price increase. I have been buying season tickets going back to the the Pinkle days. Makes me ask though. Where does that money go? Whom does it benefit?

It might just be to make up for some short falls, or bring a big-name opponent, or help with the Larimer renovation...

I disagree. I'm pretty sure the cost of parking doesn't determine whether someone will come to a game but I wouldnt be surprised if it was used as one deterrent by a casual fan. Should be kept at $5

You know....I had this long post all typed out further supporting the idea that $10 is too much. But, then I looked at single game ticket prices.

Missouri $45
BUGS $35
All others $25

Someone who is willing to spend $35-45 probably isn't going to go broke over $10 to park.
For the other games, an additional ten over the ticket price is a bit much, but when you factor in how many people get tix for nothing, or discounted....say somebody gave you a ticket, well you only had to pay $10 (parking) for the event. That's dirt cheap.

OK, I still say it's a big jump, but I'm not sure it will discourage too many people from coming. There's still Old Orchard.

RE: Parking fee going up for football?
IMO, $10 is not out of line for parking. The fan plan at $70 minus the sixty bucks for a season(parking) would be the equivalent of one ticket to the movies . Not to mention all the other freebees thrown in. If the casual fan has a problem with parking fees, may I suggest the fan plan and share it with other casuals, if they would be willing to tear themselves away from watching big school state on the tube.

As I read through this thread I think I must feel like Allen Iverson did years ago with his "practice?" rant... a $5 parking bump - we're talking about $5?

As long as the university is getting the money, I'm ok with it. Because they are now using a company that collects the money instead of university personal.

Are you sure? During basketball season it seemed liked they were still using UT people.

RE: Parking fee going up for football?
Just out of curiosity, I used a calculator to convert the value of $5 in 1980 to 2014 and came up with $12.50. At $10 it's still a relative bargain to park, but I question the accepted practice of charging a parking fee at all. It just seems it would be fair to include the parking fee with the ticket price. There are some who are willing to pay a fee to reserve a space close to the stadium so a few lots could be used for premium parking. Or do the reverse and offer free parking in a few of the outlying lots for families on a budget.
