Actually they do if you are a 5-7 team.

What does it matter as long as you are safely on the good side of the line?

If the bowls run out of the eligible 6+win teams then they can pick from the 5-7 teams but only in order of APR rank.

This year Jerry Palm is predicting that 1 bowl slots will not be filled by an eligible team. If that were to happen then the highest APR ranked 5-7 team would get the invite to the bowl game...and it doesn't matter if they are AQ or non-AQ.

So kind of does matter if you are in the top 10% but after that its like you said just a pass/fail thing.

A rule that could get a 5-7 MAC team into a bowl? (shudder)
Yikes. This is a bad thing. I've seen 5-7 MAC teams.

Particularly worrying regarding how well they travel out of conference if they are 5-3 in conference play.

This years top MAC APR team is Toledo.

If they happen to be 5-7 and make a bowl it will make up for last year.
