People like this? Dislike it?

I'm somewhat indifferent, but leaning towards allowing BYU to count. I mean, if you're going to count Wake as a power program, you should probably count BYU.

BYU to the Big12 in a hurry. They have no choice or be left behind. Only ND has the strength as Indy. Now that could change in the Future. Interesting.

Too bad. It's a better idea than playing ACC foes OOC.

+1. I'd add that BYU is better than either Army or Navy, too.

They should not count...neither should Army and Navy...basically it should only count if your school has a Tie In to a Contract Bowl like the SEC-(Sugar Bowl/Orange Bowl), ACC-(Orange Bowl), Big XII-(Sugar Bowl), B1G-(Rose Bowl/Orange Bowl), Pac 12-(Rose Bowl) or Notre Dame-(Orange Bowl Deal)....07-coffee3

Logical........BYU is not in a P5 conference and has no real claim to P5 credibility.

BYU needs to get on bend and knee to the Big XII....

Dislike...BYU is the closest school to the P5 out there. They travel well as there are Mormons all over the USA.

ND is going to keep playing them.

BYU is a good program in a lot of ways. (Good teams, 65,000 fans, ESPN deal, etc..).

Not my fight, but I think that the ACC is wrong in this. Oh well.

More Catholics out there than Morman's. Morman's have a false sense of security and power.

That said, BYU should count.

I suspect part of the reasoning here is that the league didn't want to go out of their way to say the service academies aren't worthy, but the only other indy, BYU, is. It may be true, from a competitive point of view, but why piss off some folks whose political support you may need down the road?

Thing is, in just a few short years the only service academy that would be independent will be Army, and I highly doubt even Army would put up too much of an argument against the claim that they are not a power opponent.

BYU, IMO, is a high enough quality opponent to fulfill the scheduling desires of the ACC.

This is political. They are trying to make the P5 really be P5 with ND being the only outlier.

If Army were to sign on with the MAC, leaving BYU and ND as the only independents, I suspect the ACC would (quietly) change its stance on this.

BYU is a better "second" OOC opponent than a primary one to me. I'd have to look to see, but how often is BYU the marquee OOC opponent for a P5 team?

But Wake would be an acceptable "primary" OOC opponent for the ACC?

If you worried about SOS then yes. If only because their SOS will still be higher than say a BYU, who while they play a good amount of decent teams, still have more "filler" than any P5 team would. I think that was the reasoning for demanding another P5 team as opposed to looking at even quality G5 teams. Similar to basketball and RPI, your opponent's opponents affect your computer value.

I mean we play Kentucky every year. Most years, they are not even as good as the "typical" Wake team you speak of. But because they play eight SEC teams, they still have a positive impact on computer rankings which include portions of your opponent's schedule in your values. Same could be said about the worst Big Ten or Big 12 teams too.

Personally, I would have voted to count BYU as a "power" opponent, but if this is political posturing to get BYU to cave in with regards to the B12, then so be it.

Interesting point. As it does more or less preclude them from getting a home game versus an SEC or ACC opponent in the future, who is less likely to do a home and home with them, if it will not count toward their quota. Then they will be more or less forced to do 2 for 1's or neutral games or something with those teams, in some cases.
