APR
The NCAA released its annual report today. From goblueraiders.com

Quote:The most recent APR scores are based on a multi-year rate that averages scores from the 2009-10, 2010-11, 2011-12, and 2012-13 academic years.

Every Division I sports team calculates its APR each academic year. Scholarship student-athletes each semester receive one point for remaining eligible and one point for staying in school or graduating. Teams scoring below certain thresholds can face consequences, including practice restrictions and playing season reductions. Rates are an average of the past four years' performance. National aggregates are based on all teams with usable data at the time of analysis.

In order to compete in the 2014-15 postseason, teams must achieve either a 930 multi-year APR or a 940 average over the most recent two years. This approach represents the next step in a phased-in move to a standard 930 benchmark, which will be in place for most schools with next year's announcement of 2013-14 data collected in the fall of 2014.

All of MT's teams are in good shape.

2012-13 MT APR Scores

RE: APR
I'm proud to say ODU is doing very well in this area. Our lowest APR is football at 942, and two sports (M. Tennis and W. Golf) have perfect 1000 scores. Compared to the 2011-2012 report only four sports came in lower and of those 952 was the low mark. Over the last five years of ODU's 16 men's and women's teams only one has a lower number and that is Womens Rowing down to 989 from 1000.

Charlotte got hit for basketball. Reduced practice time to 16 hours per week. Hurts but at least we didn't lose any scholarships or get a post season ban.

Nine of Marshall's 16 sports achieved a perfect 1,000 for the most recent year. It was the tennis team's 4th straight 1,000. We are good in all sports although bball squeaked by at a 930.

Our associate head coach just tweeted that our guys (basketball) had the second higher GPA in school history this semester, so that should get us off penalty next year as long as nobody gets kicked out of school.

Maybe those at-risk athletes could sign up for some telecommuting courses from UNCheat. I understand that their athletes that enroll in these "non-courses" face no NCAA repercussions whatsoever......

With our B'ball turnover, I think that counts against us. So yeah we were fortunate there.

RE: APR
Ah, feel a little better about it now. It's not like we were terrible and seems like one season a couple of years ago hit hard.

Quote:Charlotte’s 928 APR is slightly below the mandated 930 APR. The 2010-11 season was the only season in the reporting years that came in below the mandated number. That was the first year under current head coach Alan Major and, in large part, reflected the turnover caused during the coaching change.

Quote:The Charlotte 49ers men’s basketball team, which has a reported 928 multi-year APR, was given a level one practice time penalty by the NCAA. The NCAA Academic Performance Program (APP) noted that the 49ers were not subject to harsher penalties due to the team’s demonstrated academic improvement. In three of the four reporting years, the 49ers single-year APR was over 955 and that number has improved in each of the last two years.

Which is COMPLETELY stupid. ESPECIALLY if they continue with the sport at the next school.

I could see transferring being abused, by "dumping" (transferring) poorly performing students to another school. But still.

transfers only hurt if they transfer with a GPA below 2.6

UTEP is also in good shape with its APR.

I was concerned about the football portion because the last 2 reports were 926 and 937 with the one prior to those being an abysmal 878 due to football players just quitting school after the bowl vs BYU. A number of them that had used up their eligibility just quit attending. But this year's FB number was 970 and kudos to the new coaching staff for riding herd. So UTEP FB has to use the 2 year avg requiring a 940 vs the 4 year average of 930. Thankfully next year the 878 drops off the 4 year rolling average.

So, your coaches are familiar with the Marshall swim team too? Though not sure what that has to do with APR.
