I would be upset, too.
I am thinking Josh was nice and said something nice instead of being DIRECT and saying we don't want him. Now Big sees another player get a spot that he feels his son is better than now he feels slighted.

when has Pastner ever given assurances to a 5-star recruit, much less a potential walk-on?

This situation could use something more than a thread. It needs a happy ending.

The happy ending's not working for me. It keeps me clicking, though.

I can see that.
I, obviously, know nothing about this situation or the dynamics of walk-on spot selection. Are there limits? Are there promises to hold a spot, etc?
Something doesn't sound right, I can't imagine a HC promising a walk-on spot. Aren't they competed for as well? Don't you still have to make the team, even as a walk-on?
As big a fan as I am, I've never played varsity at the college level, so I really don't understand the mechanics of a walk-on player's life.
If the OP has a kid that lost his walk-on spot, here is hoping he finds another way to contribute or perhaps chooses a different situation that is better for him. I wish that hypothetical kid all the best as well.

Yes, because a coach that won't promise playing time or a starting spot to top 10 players is going to promise a walk-on spot. Makes complete sense, right?

What do they say, you can't coach 7-0?
Before everyone goes bonkers, remember these two words:
Earl Barron
Come on down little Mundt.
I have no problem with Bretts son walking on. Similar comparisons for Pau's little brother.
But there's one thing about Earl Barron you're missing in your comparison.
Earl could be described as an athlete.

You think Trey Draper was promised a spot or did it just so "happen" that one was available?

Exactly. I suspect there is more to this than we know. If it did go down as postulated, I'd be pissed too.

RE: I just lost all respect for Pastner and the program.
Since there is no walk-on limit, I don't see how Mundt becoming a walk-on would have anything to do with another walk-on not getting a spot, especially when the other potential walk-on is a foot shorter than Mundt.
The details of the situation haven't been revealed, but based on what's in this thread so far, I'd say its more likely that Pastner told the OP's family that he wasn't interested in any walk-ons at all, then went and added a walk-on. It makes more sense than promising one walk-on a spot, and then giving to Mundt.
Also, if the OP's son had been promised a walk-on spot, I think we all would have heard about it by now.

I just realized the people on here still posting about basketball in May are crazy. You all over analyze and read into things that are just not there.
I also realize I'm here posting about basketball in May.

I think it boiled down to Josh playing nice and being positive...Then he lets some 'slaw' walk on and now BIg is pissed. I don't think BIG is pissed that his son can't walk on, Big is pissed because of the reason he was given that the new guy walking on doesn't fit into.
It's like someone telling you that you didn't get the job because you don't have a degree then you come to find out the guy they gave the job to doesn't have a degree either.

Anyone can walk-on, the key is being a preferred or invited walk-on.
