The only thing I dislike about soccer are the "names". Some have nicknames, some have mascots, some are just FC, some are just SC. Use the city/state/province/country followed by a nickname/mascot and be done with it. Let the other countries soccer leagues pull this kinda weirdness, MLS should follow same model as every other major North American league. (talk about finding ANYTHING to complain about.)

Im trying to get into the MLS myself, but it is tough to find a team team to root for since none are in Cincy. And I still can't wrap my head around rooting for anything located in Columbus.

Ditto, never followed much soccer, though FIFA 98 was responsible for some lean semesters in college. If Charlotte ever fields a squad I could get on board with that. Otherwise its hard to conjure up attachment. I am a Braves fan so Atlanta was my first thought but the Phoenix is a such a WNBA mascot... Maybe they'll avoid it.

I do like the fervor that Seattle and Portland have going, MLS is slowly growing up.

MLS really is growing up. When it first started in the mid 90s I didn't think it would last more than two years. Next year will be the 20th season I believe. I think they have real staying power at this point. Everyone is building their own stadiums which is huge. The new TV deal is big for them too.

Agreed, that new TV deal was clutch and they have better leadership, requiring appropriately sized soccer specific stadiums. Its coming of age.

Not really, schools are not happy about the size of the their league and want to play traditional rivals.

Maybe they shouldn't have grown so damn big. 03-idea

Orlando City!!

MLS is so lame and contrived it's not even funny. Soccer in general sucks but the blatant rip off of the EPL in the names for MLS is just pathetic.

I am getting pretty close to calling it quits on the whole college sports model. It is increasingly sickening.

Soccer doesn't suck. You just don't like it.

The current NCAA policies on conference championships (i.e. must have two divisions and must play all teams within your own divisions) make it extremely hard for cross divisional opponents to play one another during the conference schedule. For example, UofL will play Virginia Tech (closest ACC school) once between 2014 and 2024. ECU, on the other hand, is scheduled to play the Hokies 7 times over the same time frame.

Basically, the move has nothing to do with "being afraid" to play American teams. Instead, it is a reflection of the fact that conference schools want to play one another more frequently but current NCAA rules and the size of conferences are making that difficult.

2 Solutions:

A. P5 autonomy will likely eliminate the division requirement. If that gets delayed/doesn't happen...

B. or you still want divisions, divide based on geography.

Don't forget about the proposed legislation the ACC sent to the NCAA regarding deregulation of conference championship games. If that passes, it could fix a lot of these issues.
