Sporting News' Orange Bowl Projection
I've been told they have Notre Dame vs UCF in this year's Orange.

Is that even possible? Doesn't it have to have an ACC school no matter what (aside from semifinal years)? Even if the ACC Champ is in the playoff, isn't it still back-filled with the next best ACC team?

That would be sh*tty unless we manage to have two teams in the playoffs.

UCF? Yuck.

Headlines on that game would be comical... Poor George.

That doesn't seem right? I thought Notre Dame would have to play an ACC team?

I'm pretty sure Sporting News screwed up, but it brings up a legitimate question: If FSU (for example) is in the playoffs, won't Clemson still be in the Orange?

This sounds like a lack of understanding by Sporting News, IMO. Notre Dame can play AGAINST the ACC in the Orange Bowl, but the only way UCF could ever be in this game is if the Orange Bowl were actually hosting a semifinal and UCF was in it.

I project UConn vs Stanford in the Rose and Cincinnati vs Alabama in the Champions Bowl.

Yeah it's jacked up. UCF can't play in the OB unless it's a semifinal. Even if 2 ACC teams made the playoffs, a third ACC team would still be in the OB

It's sadly comical reading bowl projections/realignment news and like from a lot of sports media (including media I otherwise like). I think the problem is that they are much more experts at the game than at the business/logistical aspects (something the csnbbs forums basically live on).

No, that's not possible. The ACC effectively owns the Orange bowl and there's no way we'd select UCF over an ACC team. It has to be an ACC team.

Also, They're holding UCF in pretty high regard considering their QB was drafted 3rd overall in the NFL draft.

Look at the source. Sporting News probably thinks AAC and ACC are the same conference.

There would have to be no ACC bowl eligible teams. All four CFP teams from the ACC? Due to the collective great records of the 4 ACC schools in the CFP (13-0, 12-1, 11-1 and 11-1), no other ACC team managed to get 6 wins?

FSU, Clemson, Miami, Va Tech...

How long do you think it would take the other P5 conferences to push through a rule change under that scenario? Considering they changed the BCS rules right after VT went to the championship game, not long!
