ACC games as non-conference games?
with the 8 game, 2 division format set for at least a few years, we are left with the same old problem: it takes 6 years to play everyone in the conference. this, of course, means that we are leaving money on the table by only having games like these every 6 years:

fsu-gt
fsu-vt
clemson-miami
clemson-vt
clemson-unc (throw that one it because i miss playing the heels)
louisville-vt
louisville-miami
louisville-gt

not all of these are prime time, top 10 matchups, but they are all interesting games that most acc fans would watch. my question is this - why not alleviate the problem by doing some of these matchups as non-conference games at a neutral site? for example, clemson would play nd every third year. the other two years would have a p5 opponent (e.g. uga, auburn) and an acc non-conference game (e.g. vt, miami). the acc would own the rights and they could market the game as part of a "grudge match" series (or whatever other catchy name they choose). i honestly like this better than the no divisions setup.

No. Further restrict a school's ability to schedule OOC matchups and potentially cost them guaranteed $3-5M from possible season-opening neutral site games?

If the fans want the games - and many do - and tv would air most of them - and they would - why can't the ACC put it into the conference schedule? A solution that benefits everyone.

caveat: the neutral site would net enough revenue as a home game for both schools.

I wouldn’t mind playing FSU or Miami maybe Pitt(Got used to seeing them on the schedule) on off years when not scheduled.
FSU at Jerry Dome would be cool or heck Virginia Tech (Still can’t believe we have never played). If it would help the league out it would be interesting to look at.

Ok. Still no. It's the conference's responsibility to make sure games that the fans and schools and tv want are played with adequate frequency.

This is crazy. Why would any school schedule a conference mate as a non-conference game?

But couldn't Clemson accomplish the same thing by playing UGA or an SEC school?

This is totally different since ND isn't an ACC school. I wouldn't be opposed to this every once in awhile. Florida State vs Notre Dame is just a fun game. There aren't too many other possible matchups that would compare.

This would nullify some of the advantage of of the 8 game conference schedule, e.g. eliminating one guaranteed loss for half of the conference.

RE: ACC games as non-conference games?
While undesirable, it's not totally stupid either. IMO the only way anything like this ever happens is if 2 or more ACC teams are unable to schedule a P5 non-conference opponent. In that case I could see them play each other as a last resort. However, as far as scheduling the best matchups - that should happen in the regular schedule. If it does not, the ADs need to have their feet kept to the fire until they get it right.

I've never understood why some schools haven't already done this. NC State fans have bemoaned the loss of their annual rivalry with Duke. Instead of complaining, if State is going to schedule a P5 opponent, why not Duke instead of somebody like Illinois that fans could care less about?

Maybe years down the road, if either State or Duke were to become relevant on the national stage, they could revisit the arrangement. But if history is any indicator, this isn't likely to be a problem.

maybe as a last resort for some schools-probably a good idea not to prohibit it for now
