ODU Blog New G5 section with Top 25
I have been a member of the boards for a few years. Recently a group of us started a blog "ODU Fan Forums", We recently incorporated a G5 section. We now have contributors from he AAC, CUSA and MWC, if any would like to contribute to that section in the future, PM us.

We began a series "The Gridirons Great G5 Top 25" yesterday. Surprise surprise, it is a backwards countdown poll. The poll included six programs that just missed the Top 25.

Here is a link to a blog posted yesterday. If you have interest, check it out. Remember these are old people blogging. 03-lmfao

RE: ODU Blog New G5 section with Top 25
Contributors for G5 Blogs
(Each of the following will only be represented if we have a contributor from that conference)

• G5 “Featured game of the week” (Football. Basketball or Baseball) AAC, CUSA, MWC, MAC and SBC (Starts football season)
• Defensive and Offensive player of the week – each conference. (Starts football season)
• G5 “In the news weekly feature” AAC, CUSA, MWC, MAC and SBC . The top story that best recognizes an achievement from the conference. (Starting in August)
• Selections for a 1st, 2nd and 3rd team All- Conference selection column. (Mid August)
• Ranking the Top 3 QB’s in Conference. (August)
• Possible weekly Top 25 - G5 poll??? *Two Pollsters from each conference. The voters will need to be contributors to the “G5 Blog on ODU Fan Forum” and a member of CSNbbs board. This will enable us to send ballots to be tabulated and returned by a specific date. (Set up prior to Monday Aug 4, 2014) Wee plan to have a pre-top 25 posted before the start of the season. First Pre Poll will debut Tuesday Aug 19, 2014 and we will post a new Top 25-G5 each week on Tuesdays.

Thanks for reading.

The following recommendations have been submitted from other members, any suggests are welcome. You can post or PM us.

* We may have more pollsters, we would like to have equal numbers from each G5 conference.

Thanks Oldtimer

RE: ODU Blog New G5 section with Top 25
At the present time, I have several conference members of different boards that have expressed interest to become a voter for the upcoming weekly Top 25 G5 poll (football season). I hope I made it clear to those interested, to become a pollster he/she will need to be a contributor to the blog as well, even if his post are short and only once a month. I have an AAC csnbbs member, for lack of a better way to describe contributors, so, in the future I will refer to them as "Pollsters". He/she asked that he remain anonymous. I have assured him and others that we will not reveal members screen names and they can use a different pen name for blogs (not their csnbbs posting name.

My original thoughts were to have two voters from each G5 conference. I currently have larger numbers from some and 1 from a few. One person recommended that the more pollsters I allow to vote the more accurate the results will be. His/her statement was, even If they skew their vote to elevate their team, they will still be submitting 25 teams and it will force the results to be more accurate. Anyway, if anyone has an interested PM me so we can add you to the list.

Thanks for reading.

If you would like a suggestion....

Don't do 25 teams... Top off at 15 and drop the requirement for regular contributions. Instead require that they contribute regularly to a G5 blog somewhere..

If anyone would like to join us and become a future pollster, we welcome any and all interested.

We have had a few people from different schools /conference asks how we started and selected the teams for the Great G5 Top 25. So this is how it started….

The Great G5 Top 25 is not just my assessment of the teams. At the time we started this blog we decided to assemble a list of all G5 teams in the AAC, MWC, CUSA, SBC and MAC. We also added BYU, Navy and Army. We asked the 6 people who started the blog to vote on a preseason Top 25. Again, if any of the contributors showed a bias, I am sure it is because they are a fan of a particular program. After we had a first draft of 31 teams (4 teams tied at 28-31), we actually gave a schedule of opponents for the 31 and asked everyone to predict a win/loss for every game on their schedule. After everyone made their selections we compiled the list. There may be a dramatic difference in the final outcome at the end of the season, but we had to have a starting point. We are now adding addition members to the Pollster/contributors group.

We are up to 14 people, many more from different schools and conferences. We hope this will neutralize any biases. We all understand how that works. Again we would encourage you or any others that would like to participate to join. It is a good way to be an advocate for your team. We would like to have an ongoing Top 25 for the season, starting with a preseason poll and we will end the poll at the conclusion of bowl season.

Thanks for reading.

Pollsters for the Great G5 Football Top 25 (Coming in August)

I want to thank everyone that has responded about become Pollsters. There have been a number of suggestions, and after a discussion with a few of the original members we have decided to give a guideline that may open the poll up to a few individuals that have expressed interest to become a Pollster. The criticism was they did not feel they had time to contribute to the blog with a column or they already are involved with another blog(s). Anyone that has already been excepted will be grandfathered in as Poll members.

Guidelines
1) Must be a registered member of CSNbbs.com (any board, SBC, MWC, MAC, CUSA, AAC)
2) Have a minimum number of post on CSNbb.com of 100 plus.
3) Will be expected to evaluate information that is shared and vote in a timely fashion.
4) Anyone that misses two consecutive poll votes will be removed from the list.
5) They will not be required to contribute to the ODU Fan Forum blog.

After looking at the interest and the main concern from a few, we decided to drop the requirement to blog.

We are looking for members from the MWC. We have very good representation from a handful of schools, but we would like a larger variety of advocates for many more schools. We would love to have 4 , 5 or more from each G5 school, we will not limit anyone if they meet the other guidelines.

Thanks for reading.

We have had several people ask how long will it take me to vote. The mechanics will be a breeze, all pollsters we eventually need to register. That will include your CSNbbs Screen name and an E-Mail address. This will enable us to weed out duplicates. Pollsters will be required to be a CSNbbs registered user and must have 100 posts. The fact that pollsters will enter their username and email address, it prevents a poster (or pollsters) from stuffing the ballot box by voting over and over again for their team.

The poll itself will be a dropdown screen where you will just select in order (1-25) than you will submit, and your vote will be tabulated. Become a member, Join today, the more pollsters the more respectable and creditable the poll will become.

We will have this up and running in the next few weeks. Our first preseason poll will be in August before the start of the season.

Link to what the poll will look like …. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1dub6MIo...U/viewform

Oldtimer
PS - We are in a test period with the poll, would appreciate if no one submits a vote. Look it over all you want. Thanks

Sorry for the intrusion, I had not planned to post this, but there have been a number of inquiries from MAC posters about joining so I wanted to give an update. I will limit my post in the future. I have a great respect for MAC Schools and the Conference; Those I have communicated with felt it would be important to have their vote count/heard. We would like a large cross section of voters so we can insure impartiality from a diverse group. We would love to see more participation from all. Feel free to PM me if you have questions.

Again, we extend an invitation to all board members of CSNbbs from the SBC, CUSA, AAC, MAC and MWC that have a minimum of 100 posts.

The current conference break down as of Friday May 23, is as follows:
MWC 3
SBC 6
MAC 13
AAC 15
CUSA 24
Total 61

We appreciate all those that have joined. I encourage everyone that cheers and bleeds their schools colors to participate, support and be an advocate for your team.

Impartiality only works if the participants are level-headed people with a working knowledge and relatively accurate assessments of multiple facets of college football. That is a dangerous assumption on a board. On a related note: ODU = Top 25 in any NCAAF positive category < UNC 80 - ODU 20 in the final game of 2013...

RE: ODU Blog New G5 section with Top 25
When fans/pollsters are encouraged to be advocates for their teams, it ceases to be a poll identifying who the best teams are and just becomes an exercise in fandom. It is totally meaningless if people are voting with their school biases. One way to avoid that would be to have one vote per school, averaging the voters who are fans of the same school. That way, it's just not a popularity contest among fan groups, and whoever has the most fans wins.
