I can see it now. The Shoe, the lights dim, The Theme from Rocky blasting, a spot light appears on Michael Buffer who bellows out "LET"S GET READY TO RUUUMBLE"!

RE: Crosstown Shootout back on campus
Maybe Mick understands that the majority of fans want it back on Campus like a REAL rivalry should be. My god, just because a bunch of Xavier fans couldn't control themselves one year does not mean that we have to hold a grudge 3 years later. Just make sure everyone plays the game with respect and it will be fine. Im very excited about this move.

I liked it downtown because I could go every year rather than every other year.

I just can't wait to see multiple replays of the fight again and our local media making a big deal out of it for the next game.
We'll probably see replays of it on the news tonight.

Good.
This game belongs on campus. It was a black eye to both schools that they felt the need for a neutral site when hundreds of other rivalry games are played on-campus every year without a single problem.

Next years game Feb 18 at Fifth Third
February is awful. We should be concerned with trying to win conference titles in Febrary, not playing non-conference games. November or December is when you play these games.
Normally I would agree but it is a new day. For one we are facing a lot of dreg home conference games that will have no local interest: Tulane, Tulsa, East Carolina, UCF, USF, etal. Might as well get a game like this in there to add a little spice and get people excited.
Second, the last few years have shown that most of the town is not into UC basketball season until after football is over. We have played some games early against teams like NC State, New Mexico, OKlahoma, Georgia and a few other P5 schools and we had small crowds. Even the Shootout last year only drew a crowd of 10K down at USB. I think the best chance of selling out the arena is later not earlier in the season.
I agree with this post. It was one thing to plop an XU game right in the middle of Cuse, G-Town, UofL, UConn, Pitt, etc. Quite another to play it in the middle of Tulsa, ECU, Tulane etc. Also, agree with fans not being "into" College b-ball before New Years.
Besides, UC hasn't fared too well with this game played early in the season. Might as well change it up. Especially with the young team they will have this year. (both sides)

I like it later, esp with our weaker conference schedule.
I miss those Feb games vs marquee teams we used to have back in Huggs day....seems like we always had a good OOC power foe team in February which was a good measuring stick for us heading into March.

I don't mind it. Face it, we would schedule a home and home series with just about any other "Big East" team.
I like that it's in February, especially this year, it will give the guys time to gel. I feared it would be an early season game and they would still be finding themselves.

I am complete, 100% against ever playing in Cintas again. They have treated the UC team and fans like sh!t every time we have gone there and their idiot fans have certainly not matured as time has gone by. We are simply rewarding them for acting like asswipes.

Arizona when Miles Simon pulled the ball out of his ass and threw in a 75 foot three pointer to beat us, loss to Maryland by 1 point, lost to someone else too I think but I can't remember who.

UC's home schedule now pick up another marquee home game during "conference season" to go with Memphis, UConn, and SMU. Xavier gets to play a late season game on ESPN after months of being getting lost on FS1. Every season both schools will have a chance to put college basketball back in the spotlight because placing the game in football season has nearly crushed this rivalry over the years.
Home schedule with VCU and SDSU early in the year is solid but having Xavier, UConn, Memphis, SMU, Temple, and Houston later in the year provides a better opportunity to sell tickets when UC has a chance to be playing its best basketball.
Totally agree, we need all the good non conference games we can get.

RE: Crosstown Shootout back on campus
In 1993 we lost to Arizona when Chris Mills just wore us out. The Miles Simon shot was in 1996.

on the 1996 game...it's true, we lost on a ridiculous shot but the real issue in that game was the lead we blew in the final five minutes to allow Zona to be in a position to beat us on that heave. If I remember correctly Dickerson for Zona hit two or three wide open three's in a stretch that brought them back. Up to that point we were in control of that game.

I'm with you. I'm out and won't go. No reason to reward the neanderthals on Victory Parkway. Anyone who thinks they'll behave better at XU based on whatever promises they made is absolutely kidding themselves.
I can't believe Mick caved. Maybe Bohn forced the issue and caved.
