After a promising start to his tenure the team hasn't really done much. This season 17-33 and 4-20 in conference. I believe this was Jay's fifth year? He replaced Boss Jr. who had EMU in the NCAAs.
I'm thinking its time we look at other possibilities for baseball coach.

RE: Jay Alexander
Dear emu79,
I mentioned this as an interlude within the Murphy/English debate. I think this is his sixth year, and Eastern has had no pitching, no hitting, errors, etc. this year. He has only had one winning season in his tenure. It's time for the hook as far as I'm concerned. Eastern has been swept by three or four MAC opponents this year with the latest being Central losing the third game of that series 15-1.
I haven't seen a game this year and wonder if Superfan has any comments about what he may have seen. If, one cannot get it done in six years, I think it's time for a change.

Well actually Ken, your post made look back at this year and research it more closely. Yes six years is enough time to get it done.
Any ideas of names who would make a good replacement?

Dear emu79,
I have no idea since I really don't follow college baseball, other than to see how Eastern is doing. If Eastern were winning maybe an assistant could be offered the job, but I doubt any assistant at this point would have a chance at the job. Of course we are thinking he should be replaced, but what is the administration thinking?

IT is time for a change. I like Jay but there has been rumblings from players and parents ever since he has gotten here. The last 2 years has been very disappointing to say the least and I see no improvement for next year sad to say. My biggest beef is the lack of bunting at key times to move the runner along. Not even close to what Roger use to do.

Dear Superfan,
Did you see any of the games this year? Did they look as bad as what was reported on Eastern's Athletic website?
Any thoughts on whether Alexander should get the boot?

Ramsey wasn't fired. English wouldn't have been either if not for the public ramblings of Mr. Stapleton. Barnes and Gilbert forced the issue.
Unless Alexander is the subject of a witch hunt (doubtful as no one cares about college baseball) or the perpetrator of NCAA violations (always possible), he will go the way of Ramsey: eventual non-renewal.

Did is see any game's ! I missed some do to they played at the same time as softball. But yes they were that bad if not worse. But because of the loss of handicapped parking Imoved to the outfield hill and watched from there. And it looked just as bad. We have to look at getting a new coach after 6 years he isn't getting it done.

RE: Jay Alexander
Ramsey did an excellent job of resurrecting men's basketball academics after the mess Boone left him. However in the end the academic accomplishments while notable did not overcome a horrible win loss record and Ramsey lost his job.

Not sure I follow you:
Before this season, Alexander was .500 in the MAC (and nearly .500 overall which is difficult for northern schools because they have to play so many road games in February and March).
What was Ramsey's record, overall and conference? Would he have been not kept with a .500 conference record?
I'm not sure a coach who had one bad conference season out of six and is honored by the NCAA for academics (top 10% of all D-I baseball programs, that is a gold star honor, beating 90% of peers) is a candidate to be dismissed.
I might add, editorially, that IF Alexander would be dismissed with exceptional academic and 'ordinary' on-the-field performance it would send the wrong message.

RE: Jay Alexander
What I am saying Steve is that good academics does not shelter a coach from a poor win loss record. What's Alexander's record now? I would say below .500 for both conference and non conference. Its trending the wrong way. Is .500 or below .500 where we want our programs to be when a coach has been here for six years? Is that progress?
But again you really didn't want English to go either so I'm not surprised.
By the way your APR posting shows exactly what I mean about Boone and Ramsey-it has a comprehensive historical listing showing the improvement under Ramsey.

Does anyone know if Ramsey is employed ? I don't believe he was hired by anyone in the collegiate basketball profession after leaving EMU. .

RE: Jay Alexander
Dear Friends,
After this season Alexander will be below .500 in both overall and MAC records. Since he has only had one winning season, and this season will be his worst record wise, he and Eastern are going in the wrong direction. I would be the first to agree that he should stay, if Eastern was competitive. With losses with scores of 15-1, 11-4, 10-3, and so on, we are not competitive. I don't know what happened to this team, but it is no where near what teams under Coryell did, or what Oestrike accomplished. Even under Boss, the short time he was here, the team was competitive.
I think we need a change.

Coach Ramsey still lives in Ypsilanti, and I believe he is some type of business exec of some capacity around this area. But he is no longer involved in basketball (at least at the collegiate level)

According to his Twitter page, he's a business executive living in Ypsilanti.
