Very true. Coincidentally, both Arledge and SK transferring for their last year due to the same reason.
Yep. For a bigger stage

RE: Shae Kelly leaving
I can't agree with the statement that Arledge and Kelley are transferring for the same reasons. Outside of graduating and transferring the circumstances are very different. JA is transferring because I would guess he was told GMU was moving forward and that playing time for him may be an issue. If he were told he would get as much time as he wanted or felt he deserved, why transfer? I think his situation is probably closer to Dimitri Batten's. He wants one to play one more year. He has a need, we have a need, so a partnership was struck.
Shae's stated reason for leaving is to play in a bigger program and on a bigger stage. Playing time was not going to be an issue as she would have been a pre-season POY candidate. ODU treated her well by all accounts. My issue with her is loyalty and that appears to be somewhat lacking. Really is Minnesota that much better than ODU? Other than the conference I do not see it. She is also misguided if she thinks that is the key to playing at the next level. You can either play or you can't at that level. WNBA scouts would know her abilities whether she is at ODU or Minnesota. I get you want to better your situation, but for me as old school, I think loyalty goes a long way. To me she is a female Chris Gatling. Great talent, but someone who was selfish on the court and did not make teammates better.
Personally, I think ODU will win more games in 2014-15 without her than they did in 2013-14 with her.

Well, Minnesota's RPI was 46 last year, while ODU was 130.
So yeah, Minnesota is better than ODU.

Minnesota was 22-13 last year to go with that RPI. And they fired their coach after that.

Sorry, didn't mean to sound rude. I was actually typing it with a smile because ODU women's bball has fallen so far...it's comically sad.

How is her loyalty even in question? The kid gave her heart and soul every game she played. She played, stayed out of trouble, and GRADUATED. Out of curosity did you think Jo Gilford was disloyal when she went to Hampton for her 5th year?
How many women's games did you go to that you saw a selfish player on the court who didn't make her teammates better? Please tell me you saw EVERY home game (or dang near every one) to make that statement.
And if you think the women will win more games without her why do you care that she left?????????????????????????????????????????

RE: Shae Kelly leaving
Maniac, it's all good I don't take any of this personally.
Justafan - because that is my prerogative as opinions are supposed to be welcomed on message boards. Guilford was in the same boat as Arledge. Playing time was going to be at a premium for her so she went to a program where it was mutually beneficial for all.
As for my game attendance, I have been a season ticket holder since 1990, traveled to the '97 final four and multiple CAA tournaments plus the TV games. I also saw the first two NCAA women's final fours at Scope, plus attending most games during college. I rarely miss a home game, so I think I can comment on what I have witnessed over the past 23 years, especially the last two.
Explain to me how ditching our program for another is not disloyal. I believe you dance with the one who brought you. To be honest I do not care as much as you think about Kelley. For me this is fun and my opinion, but I stand by what I HAVE PERSONALLY seen. We will win more games because other girls will get a chance and I think we will be more of a team.
By the way JUST, how many women's game do you attend?

Just to clarify on Arledge....Hewitt would love to have him at Mason. He made the decision to leave Mason and if healthy would have been a huge puzzle piece they don't have. His PT was not an issue, he would have been the man if healthy.

I've seen more than enough odu women's game in the last four years.
It's clear that you don't like Shae, that is evident in your comments. Why you don't no one knows. But unless you have spoken with her (at length) and came to this conclusion from actually speaking with her, it seems sad that you would trash her without knowing her. And that is what you are doing. Maybe it's not intentional and maybe it is.
There is no difference in Jo leaving for more playing time than Shae wanting to play against better competition. If you really believe you are suppose to "dance with the person who brought you" then you have to apply that to EVERYONE.

True, at this point in time. However, Hewitt didn't treat his situation last year with any sensitivity. Also, he's a Larranaga recruit, so Arledge has not been secretive in the fact he's doesn't really want to be coached by Hewitt.

Another "take" on this.
Quote:My understanding is that Jon did not want to leave the program but had been weighing his options. He wanted to stay at Mason and work to produce on the court and not transfer. Also sounds like Jon and the coaching staff have not seen eye-to-eye on his on court play.

Read down and you will see reactions not dissimilar from our own re Kelley.

It is not clear at all to me that 84 doesn't like Shae. I don't see it as personal.
Given Kelley's history of three different high schools four times, her senior HS year disciplinary issues, and her upcoming fourth different college, most of the questions raised in this thread certainly appear to be legitimate.
This is an internet message board. Speculation and opinion are large parts of what happens here.
