There's an error with the video playing georgia_tech_swagger. It shows 0:00 time.

Nice video georgia. Incredible stuff. A stationary aircraft carrier on a frozen desert. I loved the guy coming down the hall early in the footage with a bermuda shirt, shorts and flip flops. -40 to -50 degrees below zero in the service tunnels/supply arches below ground. I never heard an explanation for the labyrinth of ice tunnels. I liked the music room and gym!

Turns out you can go there. There are tourist expeditions. But the cost is staggering. You're looking at $50,000 a head.

I was in Antarctica (not Amundsen-Scott) in December. It was a fabulous vacation. Got my seventh continent out of the way. Thinking of doing my 50th state in a couple of weeks.

Also did the Falklands (battleground tour gave me a whole new perspective on that operation, not to mention retracing the steps of 2 Para, a unit with which a friend of mine served), and two days in the Ushuaia area (End of the World national park is spectacular, one person on the tour described it as a combination Lake Louise and a Norwegian fjord, which seems apt), and two days in Buenos Aires (I had forgotten how Italian BA is).

Yikes! Outta my price range but would love to "tour" the facilities and surrounding area. I can only imagine the outdoor climate on a "warm day." Sun tan lotion, I mean, polar bear hide lined whale lard thermal undergarments anyone?

Lots of research. Ice core drilling. The 6 months of continuous darkness and low humidity means it is perfect for astronomy. The BICEP2 there detected B-waves from the Big Bang. There is a Neutrino detector.

I'd like to go too but that's out of my price range. They also find meteorites there as they stick out pretty well from the white snow.

Ah. Not so sure I believe in the "Big Bang" theory.

The redshift ("doppler effect") means that no matter what you think, it is just plain fact that at one point in the past the entire universe was clumped together, and a truly unfathomable force pushed everything in the universe out from where it was originally.

Redshift: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redshift
WMAP: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilkinson_M...ropy_Probe
BICEP2: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BICEP_and_Keck_Array

If you want some practical ways to confirm what I am saying here ... even amateur astronomy equipment can show you redshift and if you turn on an analog television approximately 1% of the static you see is from background radiation from the big bang.
