Rice at UTSA - Mother's Day
So a normal, oh hum inning for Jon

E-5
BB
K
K
BB
K

A lot of people have been comparing him to Kenny Baugh, but I think he reminds me more of Jon Skaggs.

Problem is, he is playing with fire. Also, running up his pitch count. At that rate, he will not last long.

Rice hasn't had a base runner through two, going to the bottom of the second 0-0.

Another walk. Cannot keep giving them free baserunners or someone is going to score. And our offense is not looking peppy so far today.

Pick off and then another walk. 4 outs, 4 walks. Then a double to the number 9 batter. Playing with fire with those walks.

Yowzers. How's this for Jon's first 7 batters faced: 3 BBs, 3 Ks.

EDIT: Hahaha, make that 8 batters faced; 4 BBs, 3Ks. Yikes.

And he picks the runner off.

I hope the pen is warming up - its too important of a game to let him dangle out there all afternoon. The walks will be the dagger.

BTW, historically not a fan of Ralph Minard (who is behind the plate today).

UTSA threatening with runners on second and third with one out after the batter hits a double.

And a double by the #9 hitter moves Roadrunners to 2nd and 3rd. 1 out. I'm guessing Jon grooved a pitch in hopes of landing a strike. Them walks'll mess with your head, son.

LOL. The pattern continues. 10 batters faced, 4 BBs, 4Ks. Come on, Jon. One more K gets us out of this mess! You can do it!

Yeah, but he must have 40 or 50 pitches so far, after two innings. At this rate, he will not go for very long.

And Jon escapes without giving up a run. It might be a nice time to get a few runs.

So, since Rice is in San Antonio perhaps Jon is thinking about calling today's effort " The River Walk."

And, as has been our norm, not working the opposing pitcher at all-- swinging early in the count. I think the guy has thrown under 20 pitches the first 2 innings. NOT the way to beat a mediocre at best pitcher....but this offense never changes it's approach no matter what. VERY frustrating.
