It's 2014. You should care. It's amusing that a team that has Big 10/ACC aspirations doesn't even have lights on it's baseball field.

You're not worth it. We could have them tomorrow if it was a prerequisite to a better conference. 07-coffee3

a fan of a southern school who hasn't accomplished a thing worth mentioning in basketball in 20 years to be commenting on a northern school putting too much resources into basketball and not enough in baseball is hilarious.

just be glad that uconn even fields a baseball team because there are a number of northern schools who don't even have a baseball team.

Maybe they should entertain that option then.

for these schools baseball is essentially a waste of resources as oppossed to their southern counterparts.
-less fan support
-having to play the entire first month on the road
-gym practices

Who said anything about putting "too much resources" into basketball? john01992, you have a severe reading comprehension deficit.

The point is that if you are the state's flagship university who can afford a $32M basketball practice facility, surely you have the resources to string up lights at the baseball park.

So get'r done already.

The fact that the dopes enraged over day baseball ignored the impact the thunderstorms had on the game was annoying.

Comparing the attendance of CWS game to a WBB NC is even more annoying considering how irrelevant to the conversation it is.

Heck, a simple google search would have told you the University is already planning new baseball, softball, and soccer staidums.

So again, the second game of a double header was postponed to the next day (which had a game scheduled already), WHO CARES.

We have to keep up with the Jones's to continue winning national championships. Go win something of note and then you can *****.

Houston was "winning something of note" 30 years before most people ever heard of UConn.

Not true. Tradition counts for a lot. And Houston's heyday isn't that far removed from the core of the nbe's membership. Houston'e tradition still resonates with recruits. 3 Top 50 All-time greatest NBA players.

It helped with Ronnie Johnson.

Former Purdue guard Ronnie Johnson picks Houston

Two-year Purdue starting point guard Ronnie Johnson is headed to Houston to play for former Indiana coach Kelvin Sampson.

Johnson, a 2012 IndyStar Indiana All-Star from North Central, said Sampson's style of play suits him.

"It's a fast-paced, guard-oriented style," said Johnson, who was wrapping up a visit to Houston with his parents when he committed today. "(Sampson) has coached some great guards and I thought I could learn a lot from him. His style of play is a really good fit for me."

Johnson was second on Purdue's team in scoring as a sophomore (10.8 ppg), behind only his brother, senior Terone Johnson. He ranked ninth in the Big Ten Conference in assists (3.7). Johnson started 59-of-66 games at Purdue over two seasons but told the Star after the season he felt Purdue coach Matt Painter lost confidence in him.

Johnson also visited Xavier and was receiving interest from Tennessee. He will sit out the 2014-15 season and have two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Sampson is in his first year at Houston, taking over a program that finished 17-16 last season under James Dickey. Sampson had a strong 12-year run at Oklahoma, leading the Sooners to the 2002 Final Four, before taking over at Indiana in 2006. He resigned under pressure late in the 2008 season due to NCAA recruiting violations over improper telephone calls and was slapped with a show-cause penalty that ensured he couldn't coach a college team for five seasons.

Sampson coached in the NBA as an assistant with the Houston Rockets and Milwaukee Bucks the past six seasons.

"He said he's ready to get it rolling again at Houston with the rest of the coaching staff," Johnson said. "There is a lot of tradition here looking back at Clyde (Drexler) and Hakeem (Olajuwon) and the Phi Slamma Jamma teams. This is the place where I feel like I can most likely succeed."

Who cares about college baseball? More people than those who care about women's basketball.

More people than those who care about Mamadou Diouf going 30th in the MLS draft, which is something you once posted about.

You are the state university in Connecticut. Put some lights up at the baseball park.

Mock women's basketball if you want, but the reality is that UConn women's bball makes way more money than Houston men's baseball.

In reality, not many people anywhere up north care about college baseball. If I can see the Red Sox play the Yankees, I will take that all day long versus watching Houston play Tulane. College baseball, while okay, just isn't very exciting. Then again, baseball isn't very exciting in general. It is a child's game in a green grassy field that moves at a snail's pace.

I think we UConn fans should admonish the other schools in this conference that don't sponsor hockey. At least hockey is a freakin' MAN'S game. It is TEN times more exciting than college baseball!

Either way, have your school go out and win something before mocking UConn. Everyone seems to have a complaint about UConn, but their schools have no problem cashing the checks that the UConn men and women just helped generate for every school in this conference.

Looks like we found the five people who actually care about baseball. We should have killed that program and fielded a lacrosse team years ago. Baseball is a dying sport.
