Best Place to Buy Tires?
Where is a good place to buy tires in the Memphis area?

I've purchased my last 2 sets at Sam's Club. My truck has big tires, so I'm trying to find a good deal.

tirerack.com They have local places that install for them. Unbelievable deals, never found a local place that can touch them.

Really? I looked on there, but the installation and shipping are almost $200.

Performance Tire on Raleigh-Lagrange, down around Dinstuhl's (at the four way stop).
tirerack.com has the best prices if you know exactly what you want, but the shipping is insane.

It is hard to match Sam's lifetime rotation and balancing. Plus they do repairs free as well. Especially for the price.

Years ago, I had an awful experience buying a set from them. I wouldn't do it again.

Performance Tire in Bartlett. Run by a family. Good folks. Good service.

I also like Direct Tire on Poplar just east of Midtown. Not sure about their prices, though.

Firestone has my size on a good sale, but I don't trust them.

They once quoted me $1400 for little more than a brake job.

Wow, I saved about $100 last time. Sorry that wasn't your experience. If I had to buy locally I'd go to Byhalia Tire & Battery.

I've used Gateway a few times and they were always fast and reasonable.

Firestone tried to totally rip me off once, too. I do not trust them.

Gateway has been awesome for me for several decades, even though recently they cannot diagnose why my tire warning light keeps coming on.

RE: Best Place to Buy Tires?
I recently put tires on my 07 Silverado. I have the 20" rims so tires aren't exactly cheap. I called around everywhere in town. Best price I got was at a dealership. Landers GMC in Southaven had everyone beat by a mile on the same model tire.

My 02 Chrysler 300M has been telling me to service the tire pressure sensor system now for about 6 months. The batteries are running out, and the dealer told me it would cost about $700 to replace (parts and labor). F that...I can get the new sensors for about $45 a piece and have them installed when I get new tires in the near future.

Check with a local parts store and see how much new sensors cost...do it online...

I find that most places do things like this if you purchase from them.

I've had nothing but great service from Gateway and Raleigh Tire. The Raleigh Tire in Olive Branch is super nice folks. The worst service, and price, I've encountered has been at Christian Brothers.

I always used the old Hesslebein across from East High School but that became Gateway. Gateway was OK but I started doing business with Fox Plaza Tire and Automotive.

Don't know if they have them in Memphis, but since I've been in Texas I have purchased about six sets of tires from Discount Tire, they are hard to beat in price, warranty and service.

Thanks for the info. The sensor system on my 2005 Scion tC does not have actual sensors in the tires. The ABS system deduces there is a tire problem when the rolling resistance in the tires is not equal. I have been advised that there is absolutely nothing wrong with my tires or air pressure, but the light keeps coming back on after I had a nail removed. The spare is not causing this either, because it has no sensor.

I had a Scion where the TPMS sensor would often give a false-positive. I've seen the problem on other Toyotas as well.

I have a Tundra now that doesn't seem to have the same problem. It can be annoying.
