Another point: that your opening post -- which pretty clearly (at least to me) is mostly intended as a trolling expedition -- has instead generated 20-plus thoughtful and constructive responses, suggests that the CUSA is comprised of a very classy fan base.

Please add that to your begrudging list of conference positives.

RE: List of Positives for CUSA
The opportunity for most teams to develop regional rivalries is a huge plus. Other G-5 conferences are really spread out. As a Charlotte fan, it is an easy drive to every other Eastern Division school (with the exception of the Florida schools,).

I think proximity of the schools will cause intense rivalries to develop quickly.

Unlike the SB, MAC, and MWC, Conference USA has an AAU university.

Dude what you failed to notice was that in my prior paragraph I indicated that I mean no sarcasm by this thread. Basically, if you wish to call me a liar or a troller, then that's your prerogative.

ECU isn't in CUSunbelt

To my USM brothers, I truly believe you will be with us before long. When the next shift occurs we will be back together. Keep your head up and get back to kicking the sheet out of everyone.

I know that the AAC is just a glorified version of the old CUSA. However CUSA is just a glorified version of the sunbelt now.

Your opening disclaimer paragraph is the equivalent of starting a sentence "With all due respect, ..." and then proceeding to say something that is anything but respectful.

As an intelligent poster, which you clearly are, you don't get to pretend that your opening post was anything other than an invitation for departing ECU posters (such as mwp1023) to take yet another dump on the CUSA on the way out the door. Or for the thankfully few insecure Southern Miss posters (I am looking at you at this point) to tell us all how superior you guys are to the rest of the conference.

So, yeah, I guess I will exercise my prerogative to call you out as a troller.

To me, the remarkable point to this thread is that your obvious attempt at trolling provoked such measured responses (from all except me, that is).

Count this one ODU fan as nothing but thrilled to be associated with such a classy set of schools and posters as those who will comprise the new CUSA -- very much including Southern Miss.

Honestly Tulane and ucf will never allow that to happen. UCF administrators always treated our dept like garbage at conf meetings and events between the schools.
With uconn now actively seeking other places and can get attention, im nor sure that we would be just as well off staying here once they are gone.
Besides cusa hoops is a nice place without men in the striped shirts cheating for memphis year in and year out.

A large contingent of PhD research institutions. Not schools offering one or two programs, but a large contingent of schools offering 20+ PhD programs.

In the long run, athletics is only a small part of this affiliation. Collaboration is one are areas many of the schools that joined the new CUSA was really hoping to improve at the academic setting.

Conference USA is celebrating 20 years of service. The only school that is still in the conference after 20 years is Southern Mississippi. There most famous alum is Brett Favre.

1) Regional Southern Conference, makes for easy travel for fans and teams.

2) We've had consistent teams in the basketball playoffs (NCAA and NIT) for the past few years.

3) Solid Baseball squads for the most part, year in and year out.

4) If the squads in football could win some of those OOC against some of the "mid-level" P5 schools, a lot of the whining about C3.0 would actually shut up about this conference being watered down. (Especially my fellow Eagle alums, whom seem to forget that we're 1-23 over the past two years!)

Hell, I'll miss the ECU-USM bloodbaths and our "home away from home" field :) The beatdowns we usually applied to Tulane ,etc... But you know what.. I'm actually looking forward to the Eagles getting back on track and doing some serious thumping on the HIlltoppers, the Monarchs, those guys that named themselves after a "COLOR" of all things (come on at least Alabumble is a "tide"... not just "Crimson"!), etc.

If some of the opposition would show the same fire to match up on the field with our current conference mates, that we seem to have about not having some schools still around... (and if our athletic depts would show a willingness to invest) this conference would be recognized as the "giant killers" label we used to have. The conference where the big-boys were scared to play us not because we hurt their BCS numbers, but the conference where the big-boys were scared to play us, because they _Might_ lose.

IF USM ever gets the opportunity to re-unite in a match up with Memphis and ECU.. Great. If not, we do some serious thumping on everyone we do meet for now, and then we start talking about not getting recognized for the athletic powerhouse this conference could be.

UAB, Charlotte, ODU, WKU, Middle Tenn, Southern Miss and (to a lesser degree) La Tech have a history/future together in basketball...I can live with Marshall also - an eastern school/geographical fit.

I'd like to see the above teams add Georgia State (and/or teams from the A-10, Colonial or Ohio Valley) and have a 10-12 team league that plays 18 conference games every year...then work together to strengthen our non-conf schedules to get our RPI up...maybe have the conference headquarters in Nashville, Birmingham or Atlanta.

UTEP is a quality program but they are just so far away...the other Texas and Florida teams bring VERY LITTLE to the table for basketball.

I am probably in the minority but I want to see HOOPS be the best it can be...I am for football too but imo it has watered down our basketball...in the 1980's the Sun Belt played GREAT basketball...UAB went to 7 straight NCAA tourneys from 1981 to 1987 incuding a Sweet 16 and Elite 8 appearance in our first 4 years of existence!...it can be done again.

04-cheers Good Post

Some of that reminds of the MAC attack in 2003. Marshall dropped #6 KState, Toledo beat Pitt, NIU beat Maryland, and BGSU lost to Ohio St by 7 in a game that wasn't decided till late in the fourth all in the same day. May have been another win I'm forgetting.

All the talking heads were on our jock for a week. We need that kind of day in CUSA to get things kicked off. Then just keep slugging away when ever we get an opportunity. It doesn't take long to get a good reputation. Keeping it is the hard part.
