List of Positives for CUSA
I am an open-minded person though I do not like CUSA 3.0. So, for the sake of giving all the posters a chance I would like to hear the reasons for getting excited and feeling positive about this conference. I mean no sarcasm by this post!

However, beware I am realistic on the facts and if this turns into a sarcastic slugfest then I want all posters to then understand why I have at least right now negative feelings about CUSA. Please begin...

RE: List of Positives for CUSA
We got some of the best all sport members from other conferences.

WKU and MT were very well rounded athletic programs in the SBC. Charlotte had the most championships during their time in the A10. I believe UTSA was also pretty strong.

Most of the schools in CUSA are very serious about upgrading their facilities and competing at a high level.

UTSA and ODU both have great followings for new programs. Charlotte's seems strong, but I won't group them in with ODU or UTSA until we've had a few more years in the books. Most programs can sell out their first year.

On the football side of things, Marshall, UTSA, ODU, FAU, and WKU all seem to be recruiting very well (I don't follow football recruiting closely, so I apologize if your school is too and I missed it)

For basketball, La Tech held onto a good coach that is also doing a pretty good job recruiting. Charlotte, UTEP, WKU, and UAB all have very nice looking classes coming in in 2014. Marshall and FAU just hired NBA coaches.

That's all I have.

Marshall is a member. That is all I need. A conference does not define you. It is possible to be competitive and have tradition outside of a big name conference. Sometimes, playing despite the adversity is what makes you a champion.

I like the fact we have small college town schools with fans who love their teams mixed with schools who are located in huge DMA's for TV contract purposes. It's kind of a good mix of butts in seats and large markets. Plus I think a lot of schools are poised to make some noise.

RE: List of Positives for CUSA
It's easy to be negative in life and I can understand that it's tough on USM fans. You have to understand that the thing that makes you mad is the opposite for nearly all other teams in the conference, you feel like you're moving down while nearly everyone else is moving up.

I believe you have to give the new line up a chance. Middle and WKU are solid programs. UNT and UTSA both had very good first years in the conference. ODU sells out every game and will still sell out after stadium expansion due to their waiting list. They are in a great recruiting area and will be a player in the conference. I like FAU, they just need to build support. FIU is a cluster right now and need to get their crap together. I am wait and see on Charlotte, but it's a great market, good recruiting area, and initial support looks good.

USM can help the conference a lot by getting back to being themselves on the field. You have arguably the best name recognition in the conference so it hurts when you are down.

I think we will take a big step in that direction this season.

Before commenting on current members, I'd like see how ODU and UTSA do being 1A now. Then I'd like to see how Charlotte does as a even new startup than UTSA in football as well.

I'd feel confident that baseball and basketball are ok..... its the football thing that will take some time to work itself out.

Generally speaking though, CUSA has been good to everyone that has joined as schools have gotten better and or moved up the food chain after coming here from their previous haunts.

Have you seen FAU's and FIU's dance and cheer teams? My God, that should be the center of CUSA' marketing. Sorry Randy Moss, Brett Favre, Mean Joe Green, Terry Bradshaw, and co..

RE: List of Positives for CUSA
It is a solid all sports conference with no teams left out on an Island. Most the members in the Conference have nice facilities and are investing in their athletic programs to improve them. Basketball has the potential to be a multiple bid league with history of success. Football will be very competitive. I suspect from the OP perspective of a Southern Miss fan that if Southern Miss gets back to where they should be in Football that it will be enjoyable for your fans to watch Southern Miss compete most years for the CUSA Championship like you did in the CUSA 1.0 days, 2.0 days and soon to be the 3.0 days. Conference realignment has not worked out great for any of us that got left behind in the G5 and most likely in the near future we will be looking at a world of mostly playing G5 schools. The money train left the station years ago and it sucks for schools like Southern Miss and ECU who just happen to lose the geography lottery by building our schools in less populated areas that gives the student a great college town experience but does not fall into a tv footprint that makes you a candidate for expansion. Not sure how it will all turn out if the P5 are successful in completely splitting off so we just have to wait and see.

Fans of C-USA schools truly lover their school. We are not fan's just because it is the "cool" or "hip" thing to do. I'm glad we are not a "big" time conferance.

Thankful for those who are still here; Marshall, USM, UAB, Rice, UTEP. Each is a proven winner and conference leader in at least one sport.

UAB, UTEP, Charlotte, WKU, ODU, and a couple of others have the makings of a bball conference that can rival most.
