I went on twitter to check on tonight's baseball game status with the weather and saw this:

Quote:RiceTennis ‏@RiceTennisSID 54m
Due to an injury to Liat Zimmermann, Rice's doubles team of Zimmermann and Natalie Beazant has had to withdraw from the NCAA Doubles

Perhaps even more than you realized:

Quote:Rice senior Dominique Harmath has been named the Texas Region winner of the ITA/Cissie Leary Award for Sportsmanship and will be a finalist for the national award winner, which will be announced on May 20 in Athens, Georgia.

Harmath is the second Owl to be honored as the Texas region winner, joining Karen Chao in 2004. Harmath's coach at Rice, Elizabeth Schmidt, was the West region winner of the award as a senior at UCLA in 1999.

Harmath saw her career come to a close last weekend with the Owls fell to Baylor in the second round of the NCAA Championship. She was a four-time All-Conference USA selection and completed her career tied for second on the Owls career win list in doubles (93-44) and sixth in singles (93-41). In the classroom, she was a four-time member of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and she won the Joyce Pounds Hardy Award, which honors Rice's top senior female student-athlete.

The Cissie Leary Award for Sportsmanship goes to a Division I women's player who displays inspiring dedication and commitment to her team, which has enhanced her team's performance and exemplified the spirit of college tennis. It dates back to 1997 and is memory of the late and widely admired Penn women's tennis coach Cissie Leary.

Pretty cool that Dominique follows in the footsteps of not only her fellow Owl, but also her coach.

Great news. Can't think of a better way to honor Natalie's SR year and the team's excellence.
