Big surprise! SEC signs the most ESPN 300 football players for 2014
If anybody was looking for a ray of hope for the G5 schools when it comes to recruiting, you are going to have to wait until next year.
The 63 FBS schools not in the P5 signed a grand total of 5 of the top 300 football players in ESPN's class of 2014. Five.
Central Florida led the way with two. South Florida, Cincinnati and Boise State had one each. The other 59 schools struck out.
As expected, the SEC garnered the most, with 121. The ACC was next with 49 (59 if you count Notre Dame), followed by the PAC (42), B1G (37) and Big 12 (34).
On a per team basis, that's 8.6 each for the SEC, 3.5 for the ACC and PAC, and 3.4 for the Big 12. The B1G trails the field at 2.6 four-star players per school.
Of the top ten individual schools and ties, a total of 12 schools in all, the SEC had 8 of them, headed by Alabama (19) and LSU (16).
The top four non-SEC teams were FSU (13), Miami (11), Ohio State and Notre Dame (10 each).
So, if anybody thought realignment would alter the look of the AP rankings, think again. In a few years, the CFP selection committee may have a hard time finding a G5 school to rank using their current methodology. Would they still give them an access bowl slot if there isn't anybody in the top 25?

Do those recruiting stars translate down the road, when players are drafted a few years later by NFL teams? Sort of, but lots of lower-rated players end up outshining 4 and 5 star recruits.
In the first round of this year's NFL draft, there were five 5 star recruits, 11 4 star recruits, 10 3 star recruits, and 6 2 star recruits.
There were two 2 star recruits, Blake Bortles and Khalil Mack, chosen in the top 5 picks of the NFL draft.

Having a hard time placing a "G5" school in the access bowl is the whole point. Why were they excluded for more than a decade, and paid a fraction of the money. Did the ACC do anything in football for most of the BCS era? Nope. But they are a power conference. Lol.
The Big East of old was better than three of the new "POWER CONFERENCES", but that got ripped up. Another...laugh.
Nothing to see here. Move along.

Hard for the 'power programs' not to sign the bulk of 4-5 star players when the number of stars assigned by all sites are based on whether or not a player is being recruited by 'power programs'.
Most P5 programs, which are decidedly not 'power programs', recruiting classes are made up of primarily 3 star players, with very few 4-5 star players.

Based on the OP thought process,

should be changed to
Quote:So, if anybody thought realignment would alter the look of the AP rankings, think again. In a few years, the CFP selection committee may have a hard time not picking all SEC schools using their current methodology. Would any other P5 Conference really be worthy of an access or playoff bowl slot when the SEC gets most of the top recruits and usually has 6-8 teams in the top 25?
