I think the chances of Roy leaving for the Lakers or any NBA job are slim to none. However, there are a couple of reasons his name came up.

Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak played at UNC after Roy left and before he became an assistant. A small connection but still a connection.

The Lakers looked at Roy in 2004. He had only been at UNC for 1 year at that point.

He's never coached in the NBA. This could be his last chance to prove he can coach at the highest level.

Listening to him talk in interviews he seems to be highly frustrated. This could be his natural demeanor.

Ultimately I see him staying in Chapel Hill, getting more money and having more influence on the upgrades/replacement of the dean dome.
