RE: CAA Football Split?
Is the strategy here to try to convince Delaware to finally take the plunge and ask the MAC for an invite to upgrade to FBS football in 2016?

I'd love to see Binghamton start football - it's the only SUNY University Center without it and it's a member of the America East with Albany and Stony Brook.

I don't follow. Is this just something you pulled out of a hat or have you heard something. Villanova would much rather play the teams in the latter for football.

I agree. This split would force Nova to play several New England schools annually when Delaware and Towson are their closest neighbors. The single division format lets schools schedule their closest neighbors as annuals.

If split into two conferences, I suppose they could get two autobids to the FCS playoffs, but that doesn't really matter since the conference generally gets 3 or more bids.

I see no benefit to this.

No. But if the conference is going to give out football only invites to Stony Brook and Albany, they may as well give one to Fordham. Only time will tell if Albany can be competitive in the leauge, but year one was a total bomb for them.

The CAA can have Fordham in all sports. Actually that wasn't fair...

to the CAA.

How are they still in the Atlantic 10?

I have to assume solely because they are located in Manhattan.

Fordham beat Villanova and Temple last year. Their QB transferred in from UConn.

I think Army and Navy belong in the CAA.

Navy was in the CAA at one point. As was ECU, Richmond for all sports, Mason, ODU and VCU...so it goes.

But it's all good because we got Northeastern, Drexel, Hofstra, Elon and College of Charleston....

RE: CAA Football Split?
Fordham is in Da Bronx, on Fordham Rd, not too far from Yankee Stadium. The Fordham Road section was once an extention of New York's other Little Italy. BTW, Manhattan College is also in The Bronx. Fordham has a satellite campus in Midtown just North of Lincoln Center. That is mainly for theater and arts.

Fordham has put a big push on to improve its athletics. It has done enough that it forced the hand of the Patriot League to allow scholarships in football by threatening to seek admission to the CAA.

LKF, Hofstra dropped football to concentrate on basketball. It was a power play to try to convince the A-10 to extend an invite. The move failed and Hofstra has floundered in all sports not called lacrosse. In the mean time Stoney Brook has made great strides in catching and passing Hofstra in all sports.

Don't worry...'Nova and Fordham will be playing football under the same conference in no time.

Once the JMU FBS "will he or won't he?" thing resolves itself, we'll see what the CAA and Patriot are made of.

You realize that Navy and Army are FBS and CAA is FCS right? And Navy over the past number of years has been pretty successful in FBS. No reason it needs to drop down.

Navy was in the CAA at one point.

Navy was a founding member of the ECAC South (which was renamed the CAA in 1985), the conference was an olympic sports conference and didn't sponsor football at that time. That said, NAVY plays FBS football, not FCS, and it has always been an independent and will remain so until 2015 when it's plans to begin play in the American Athletic Conference as a football only member.

RE: CAA Football Split?
I don't see any reason why the AE schools would want to separate from the CAA football. The CAA is one of the top couple FCS conferences every year. UNH and Maine are better off with JMU and Delaware than without. I know UNH finally got their funding to upgrade their football facilities and I'm sure it's to maintain there status as a top FCS team. Albany, SB, UNH want to be elite in the FCS and the best way to continue that is with the Southern flank of the top FCS programs, I know if UMass was still in the CAA that's how I would feel.

Delaware isn't going to the MAC since UMASS didn't have success there and they are leaving that conference in 2016.
