It's just common sense.

I was happy if that's all that happened. If I got in trouble beyond that and my parents found out, I was grounded. It's not like you're getting your ass kicked by the teacher, he's just breaking you up. Big deal if he gets you by the neck, you have to grab something. My math teacher that made us do exercises would also put his thumb in your belly button and grasp the little piece of fat underneath it and pinch. Now THAT shiit hurt. Did we complain? Hell no, and we didn't screw up again either.

I'd rather you broke it up than let them continue to fight.

It's just common sense.

That is a ridiculous reason to fire a teacher unless she seriously injured a student.

As I have already said. There are ways of breaking up a fight without getting physical.

My mom and fiance are both teachers and I get so frustrated (they are too) every time they tell me a story like this.

There is no such thing as discipline in school anymore because of lawsuits and parents who refuse to believe their kids can do anything wrong. Kids are starting to catch on to this (even the young ones) and are taking advantage of it. There was a kid that punched a parent volunteer on a field trip bc she had told the child to stop hitting another child with a stick... The result: the parent was questioned about what she could have done to provoke the child and told she could never volunteer for the school again. The child received no punishment.

Makes me sick to think that some of these kids are our future.

It's already beginning to show because that first wave of spoiled ass holes have made it into or just past college, if they got that far.

Of course it is. You can see their posts here everyday. You know who they are.

But, I'll bet they were the beatees instead of the beaters. They sound like a person you would love to beat up or at least try. 05-mafia 'Cause it's much easier to spew your nonsense here than face to face.

Sure, but yelling REALLY loud probably won't cut through the fog and you'd probably get in more trouble for zapping them with a taser than a broom. 07-coffee3

In all of my years of teaching, I have never NOT been able to stop a fight by simply yelling for them to stop.

Quote:"Unfortunately, the method that she used, in terms of swatting one with a broom, is a violation of the corporal punishment provision under the Michigan school code,” Johnson said. “But she's caught in a quandary because under that same code she's expected to do what is necessary to diffuse a situation.”

I wouldn't classify what she did as punishment because that's usually reserved for a time after the facts have been sorted out, not in the heat of the moment.

Like what, politely asking them to stop fighting? Fit, you're teaching 8th graders anyways, aren't you? If two guys, past puberty, got into a fight and you were a woman, yelling at them wouldn't work for probably 98% of the women teachers.

They should be allowed to use tasers.
