RE: This board appears to be dying!
When the Big East was getting 6 or 7 teams in the Big Dance for basketball UConn, Cincinnati, Louisville, Syracuse, Pitt and Notre Dame were usually in the group. Now without UConn, Cincinnati, Louisville, Syracuse, Pitt and Notre Dame, that leaves the Big as a 1 or 2 team bid conference in down years. I would say 3 or 4 teams would be the norm most years. Five (5) teams would be a special year, like when Marquette, Villanova, Georgetown, Xavier and Butler all have good years at the same time. Of course this could all be tainted by weak RPIs. 07-coffee3

Totally disagree. I think the floor would be pretty much close to this year. It's tough(really almost impossible) for any top 10 conference to only wind up with 1 bid. Very tough. It'd be like this year's MWC- and they still got 2 teams in with no issues at all as 4 and 7. Just not realistic.

5 teams takes a lot- but it's not a special year necessarily. Big East was close to getting 5 teams in- let's just say if Georgetown had beaten DePaul and then Creighton- they probably get in and there is your 5th team. And- that's in a pretty mediocre year. Georgetown with their OOC profile would have been a pretty easy one to get in if they had done much this year.

Seriously, how are you restricted...? No more than 50 posts a day...? You have the 2nd most posts on that site by more than 300... "The Hall" is 1st due to his helpful, informative daily recruiting notes. You have more than 1000 more posts than I do.

Really, why do you give a sh!t...? It's your job to persistenly and continuously convince everyone that you think they're wrong...? Seriously...? And if people disagree you call them Kool Aid drinkers...? Why do you feel the need to do that...? Dangerous...? What...? Seriously, what is your goal...? Why are you there...? Why do you post...? I could see you going there to get Big East information, sharing an "opinion", and letting it go at that... agreeing to disagree...? I could see where as the town curmudgeon, you would make a pessimistic post here and there, and let it go. I just don't get it...

With the Gibbs thing, you deliberately baited Creighton fans hours after Gibbs' injury, wondering about how badly CU would collapse without him... they were still figuring out the extent of his injury, and you were writing the team's obituary... it was in poor taste... either you're tone deaf (probably) or you're a miko-type concern troll (possibly).

And, me, I don't altogether dislike you as a poster... you just go overboard to such a ridiculous extreme... like a pessimist with the energy of Robin Williams on coke and Jim Carrey on speed, all rolled up into one.

With the Gibbs injury- the initial reports had said 2 weeks. Then got changed to 4-6 weeks. All I did was look at the schedule and see what the difference was. Even others on the site thought that Creighton fans were wrong there.

Also, I said that I thought it would actually HELP Creighton quite frankly as they would get deeper.

Why not just stay here then? This place can be your personal site. Perfect situation for you. Everyone knows that you're here. Many of us still refer back here time to time. Why still post at a place that puts restrictions on you...?

Georgetown. But I love watching all college sports in general. Grew up on Big East basketball- that ESPN show 2 months ago brought back so many memories. I appreciate how good the Big East was and just want to see it get back maybe not to where it was(don't know if we're ever going to see what we saw earlier this decade again)- but still close enough. What we had this year just wasn't that.

I think the ACC should add Navy for football and Georgetown for the rest of its sports. 05-stirthepot

I seriously doubt that happens- although I do think the ACC has a bigger issue than they really think with regards to the DC area- I don't think UVA gets it done in any fashion in this area. I think it's going to be Big Ten/Big East pretty close and then a steep drop off before the ACC. It's just too far from DC to Charlottesville and UVA.

RE: This board appears to be dying!
Stever's predictions weren't wrong at all. He was the first poster to issue warnings about the games lost in the OCC schedule and it's implications for the tournament. He was right on the money there. On the other hand, his posts are generally negative (which I don't have a problem with) but the sheer number of his posts can overwhelm the board with negativity and turn people off (which they did) on the other board.

RE: This board appears to be dying!
Yeah, I think a lot of folks thought that the conference play would just be a magic elixir and all would be right once we got into that. Problem was everyone had picked up 2-3 OOC losses at least and that made it where the teams needed to get to 11 wins. With how deep the conference was, that just wasn't all that realistic. Weren't going to see the separation needed to get that. When Georgetown fell off(the one bubble type team that actually had good OOC wins in general)- that really hurt a lot.

Although, I will say, the last 2-3 weeks of the regular season played out almost as badly as it could have possibly played out for the Big East to get bids. St John' s and Georgetown both had great chances but had crucial losses. Xavier had the Stainback injury which hurt them and nearly cost them a bid. At least Cooley did his great job to get PC in there. I really thought I was going to eat some crow there with about 3 weeks to go- it really was looking good. But then everything kind of fell apart.

it'll be interesting to see what next year brings. Some of the early bracketology doesn't look good- ESPN for instance has Georgetown as a 12 in a PIG, Villanova as a 2, and Xavier as a 10. With Providence and Creighton as the 5th and 6th teams out. You hope that's not realistic, but right now- it may be.

I actually miss the posts here quite a bit. I have been a fan of the Big East since its inception. I used to attend many BETs at the Garden growing up. I miss the well informed debates based on individuals’ opinions, however what I don’t miss is the ridiculous name calling and simple lack of respect.

I’ve been to the other site as a reader, I’m not a registered poster there and that is because what I have noticed is many (not all) posts that don’t paint a rosy picture of “the best thing we could have ever done was leave those crap AAC programs behind, FOX is much better than ESPN” ect ect ect is met with a pounding of ridicule not unlike what caused the BE posters to leave here.

I know a few idiots ruin the rep for many good posters, I just wish the good fans would come back here so the health debates can continue. After all, at the end of the day it’s just sports, it’s not life and death, it’s supposed to be fun.

To be fair, that St. John's admin pissed off a fair portion of fans here before he was ousted as well. This site got a lot of complaints about him before he was removed as a moderator and threw his hissy fit.

He was a loose cannon even before he became a moderator.
