Exclamation Indiana VP thinks AAC is a major conference!
UCONN and Indiana schedule a home and home for 2019-2020.

From today:

Indiana Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Jeremy Gray said. “This addition keeps us in line with our goal of having seven home games every year and is consistent with the Big Ten’s policy that each school play at least one major conference opponent in the non-conference every season."

It doesn't change everything but it is good from a perception standpoint. If other administrators from P5 schools make similar comments and the on field performance is strong, this is pretty much what the AAC needs to elevate its stature.

Just ask nc state and unc...the worst beat downs they got all year...last 2 times we played state they lost and the time before they had a qb named Russell Wilson..Not bad for a non major...

Maybe he is assuming UConn will be in a P5 league by then?

why? Because some dude from IU says so? LOL, great logic man. That dude can say whatever he wants....but our tv contract and bowl line up say differently.

Not sure if it's memory, comprehension or just a barrier to communication going on here.... The other day you said that everyone viewed all of the G5 the same. I said that wasn't so in some cases. I've got friends who went to P5 schools that view the AAC over the SBC, etc. You said "nope, everyone views all G5 conferences as the same. Me, P5 fans, TV executives, university and conference officials."

Well, now there's at least two people aside from some friends and people on other boards. Me and "that dude" from Indiana can see the difference between the AAC and other G5.

The only way that the AAC is the same as the worst G5 conference (whatever that may be) is that we're all fighting for the same bowl and don't make nearly as much money as P5. Level of play, recruiting, TV exposure, fan bases, merchandise sales, budgets, public perception, etc. are all different.

RE ACC Bowls: you guys won't be playing in the largest bowl stadiums - but then, not sure you'd want that.

However, here's what you DO have going for you:
* Every year either Hawaii or Bahamas
* Every year St. Pete, FL and Miami Beach, FL

Those are destinations coaches can sell to young men. "Come play for me and if we win we could go to Hawaii or the Bahamas or at least to Florida for our bowl game!" (At worst you're stuck playing an ACC team in Washington DC)

RE TV contract: you guys deserve better, and I hope you get it

I was using a wide hyperbole brush when I said 'everyone'....obviously I wasn't being literal because 90% of the fans in this very forum view the AAC as better than/different than the rest of the G5.

RE: Indiana VP thinks AAC is a major conference!
I think you're going to see some G5 realignment soon... between the American's desire to try and keep some kind of pace with the P5 conferences and paying for their rules, along with ESPN's desire to maximize the best conference match-ups for ratings of contracted prime nationwide time slots on ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPNU will push to align the valuable G5 properties into the American.

Schools unwilling to pay for P5 rules will be left behind... the result will be the best of the rest conference, that if the P5 do go out on their own, I think would take them to be near 80 schools which in history tends to roughly be the D1 spit number.

I posed the same question in another thread a few weeks ago after the UConn NC game.

I hope all is well for SMU-UConn he had a great basketball season for his two teams. Hopefully he comes back to the board some time.

Nope, it's football - which, by then, I expect UConn football to be back on the rise.

What did you expect "the dude" from IU to say? We are scheduling one of the worst teams from a g5 conference. Fact is, IU is terrible in fball and have been forever. Hell, they are just average in bball now. IU is one of those teams you schedule for homecoming in fball, but keep telling yourself this is some big developement. LOL!
