addicted to golf
I think it is time I finally admit that I have a problem... I am absolutely addicted to the game of golf. It's like a drug, and for me a very bad one...

I think defining one's propensity for tackling the game of golf includes an open admittance that you are slightly insane. No one in the amateur level of golf will likely EVER reach a point where they are happy with all facets of their golf game... Its a moving target and at times seems invisible... I tried this off-season to practice using a makeshift hitting net I installed in my garage... All this did was hone a very poor swing all winter. Now that I am free to hit the ranges around town... I have discovered that what I had thought was a great training idea, has turned out to be in fact the exact opposite... Both of my shoulders are messed up and my golf swing is somewhere on a beach drinking corona's with a credit card it stole from me...

Just need to get it out there... Hi... flush here.... I am a golf addict.

RE: addicted to golf
I actually find that I seem to play better if I only play once a week or so. For whatever reason, I am hitting the ball more consistently and scoring lower now compared to when I had time to play 3-4 times a week. Perhaps there isn't enough swings to get into bad tendencies. Not sure.

RE: addicted to golf
I live in SC, just off Hilton Head, and we have 50 courses within a 30 min drive that we can play all year. I usually play 3 times each week, and find that today I might be hitting drives really well, but can't hit the irons. Tomorrow it is just the opposite. The day after that I have both working and can't putt. No matter the combination I will always be +/- 3-5 strokes of bogey. I have learned two things about golf; the harder you try, the worse you do. Every other sport rewards effort, but not golf. And I have a LOFT problem. Lack Of ******* Talent.

Describes golf to a "Tee".. <--- see what I did there?

I starting reading the book "Hogans Five Lessons" awhile back... and he really talks at depth about grip and his "magical device"... what was left out is that even modern day professionals aren't really sure what that "magical device" really is... exactly. I'm convinced its a combination of fundamentals, timing and tempo. I always play my best golf when I am really loose and not trying to hit the ball hard... just trying to put a good swing on it...

RE: addicted to golf
I am right there with you flush. I actually have only been out a few times this spring with the weather being so bad and coaching. But once that changes, its hard for me to stay away.

I think that the reason I both love and hate the game is because its something that I know I will never master. Growing up, I was always pretty good athletically at whatever I tried. Golf is a game that challenges you both physically and mentally. Maddens you with every bad shot and keeps you coming back with that 1 long straight drive, stuck approach or long birdie putt.

Have a great season.

I subscribe to Mark Twains philosophy on golf. Great way to ruin a wonderful walk in the woods.

Have to agree with this. If I'm going to be sending a ball down a field, or a frisbee for those who do disk golf, I'm going to have a dog to bring it back to me. I'm not going watch where it goes just so I can chase it down and hit it again. There is something very wrong with those who find enjoyment in that "sport", I suspect that just like many modern players the Irish or Scots who first made up the "game" had had a little too much of the water of life.

Heh, same here.

I golfed when I was a kid (my dad was a pretty regular golfer back then, as was my grandpa) but I honestly haven't swung a club in 10 years.

For me, I subscribe to the "I can only have one expensive hobby" approach - and flying ain't cheap.
