RE: Khalil Mack first pick of the draft?
Mike Mayock on NFL Network has him as his #1 player and said he'd take him 1 if he was the Texans GM as well. That'd be amazing for the MAC. Especially with a draft class as loaded as this years group. Never thought I'd see the MAC have a shot at 2 #1 picks in a row

Agreed. Defense wins championships. Look what Seattle did to Denver in the Super Bowl. Clowney and Watt would be a good idea for the Texans considering they have to face Andrew Luck twice a year.
I know it's wishful thinking to have Mack go first overall, but man would it be great for the MAC.

RE: Khalil Mack first pick of the draft?
No offense to Mack because he deserves the accolades he's receiving, but if the #1 pick isn't Clowney, I will be dumbfounded.
The whole basis for everyone saying that Houston will take Mack over Clowney seems to be based on the fact that the Texans already have J.J. Watt and they'll be running a 3-4 defense. My response to that is Clowney is easily the best player in this draft and you can plug him into whatever position you want and he'll be a force.
Plus, if Houston doesn't take him, and St. Louis can't trade out of #2 or doesn't want to, then Jacksonville is gonna take Clowney at #3 and Houston will have to deal with him twice a year for the foreseable future. Then you'll have the inevitable comparison between Clowney and Mack for the rest of their careers and quite frankly, I don't think that will work out very well for Mack.

the 3-4 conversion for DE's unfortunately has been a big issue of late. Dominant DE's in a 4-3 dont always transfer over well. Look at Larry English for example. He had injury problems but I still think his career could have gone differently if he went to a 4-3 team. Another example is Jared Allen. Guy is dominant, but I dont think he would be as a 3-4 OLB. Clowney definitely has more talent than Mack, but he wont be as fluid and could drop back in coverage as easily as Mack could so Mack probably fits the defense better. For Clowney's sake he should want to go to a 4-3 team but obviously he wants to go #1

Clowney is the most talented player coming out in the draft by a large margin. He is a freak of nature.

Larry English, for as much as he did for NIU, is nowhere near the football player Jadeveon Clowney is. If anyone can make the transition, or find a role where he can get the QB no matter the scheme, it's Clowney.

That is true but aren't there questions out there about his character?

Essentially, you could say that the issues people have with Clowney are similar to the ones people had with Peppers. Freak-of-nature, best player in the draft qualities, but questionable work ethic.
As a cool side note, guess which team had the #1 pick when Peppers was drafted, but passed on him for a QB...Houston.
