Josh Bass injury update from BC Enquirer.
This may be the most bizarre sports related injury I've ever heard of. He's fortunate to be alive.

That is quite a story. Glad he is getting back to 100% and hope to see him on the field. Just shows how fragile your health can be.

Wow! That is really bizarre and stunning. Life really is fragile. I'm so glad he is ok.

Lost my brother to a staff infection. Those things come out of the blue. Be grateful for everyday.

he has lost 30 pounds since he has been sick. Whats a realistic number on what he can gain back before August?

Craziness. You never know what might bite you.

Glad to hear he's doing well and on his way to recovery.

It is easier and safer to gain that kind of weight back than to put on all new weight. It shouldn't take long, but everyone is different and I don't know what kind of restrictions he will be under. Whether he will be able to fully practice in fall camp and be ready for the start of the season or not, I couldn't say.

If I had to guess, I think the outlook is good considering we still have about 4 months until the season starts.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if necessary, Bass could redshirt this season? He joined the team in January '14 correct?

And I sincerely hope he makes a full recovery. Scary thing he just endured.

RE: Josh Bass injury update from BC Enquirer.
I got a severe case of poison ivy a month before my redshirt freshman season and lost 25 lbs. I got up to 245 before I lost the weight and never got heavier than 235 after that. I was a much different body type being a linebacker. It all depends on if he lost fat or muscle. If it was fat he is better off putting back on good weight but if you are fully active it can be difficult to put on anything other than muscle mass. Plus you never know with development, I was maybe 200 when I got to wmu and a year later was that 245 that I was never able to get back. He is young enough to have a growth spurt and put on muscle and height. You just never know.

He was part of the first Fleck class. He red-shirted last year.

Apparently he put on 35 pounds since coming to campus last fall. Then lost 30. I think it will be tough to put on more than 10 or 15 pounds till start of camp.

Yadda yadda gifts etc... but still, really?

the NCAA makes less sense as an organization every day. That the school even needs to get clearance for that is a shame.

P.J. certainly cares about his players as young men:

Mary Beth Bass said Fleck stopped by every day to greet her son with non-football conversation and a loving approach.

“More than once when coach Fleck would leave Josh, he would say, ‘I love you buddy,’” Mary Beth explained. “It wasn’t just something he was saying. You could tell he meant it and he cared that much. It wasn’t just a kid on his football team.”

Yet we'd rather run him out of town before he even gets a chance to prove himself.

I don't buy the 1-11 record and the slogans as an excuse.

The critics were out before Fleck even stepped foot in the office.

We'd rather focus on the petty things rather than celebrate the good, real testimonials like this one.

Congrats for overcoming this Josh!

You have to change this from a pro-Josh thread into an anti-Fleck rant? Shame on you.

Sometimes you need to know when to stay home.
