I think this would be an excellent matchup. Rose vs Lawson. Both teams juggernauts in those years. Kansas beats both though, u already know =p. Edge to Memphis, I Just didn't see UNC play any really good defensive teams in 2009.

2.
Not that it's a big deal, but remember that Memphis barely beat their 8 seed in the round of 32 (77-74 vs Miss. St).

UNC set a record the following year by winning tournament game by at least 12 points, including the FF and NC games.

So, you know, just some argument fodder to debate.

3.
They went on to destroy Michigan state, Texas, and UCLA (Love and Westbrook) in the next 3 games, all loaded teams. I'll take Memphis by 7.

As stated by many national CBB writers, the Tigers made an historic run by annihilating those 3 teams in consecutive games.

We would have smoked '09 UNC and if played again, would have smoked '08 Kansas.

And in my opinion, that's when the powers that be decided to come down on Memphis. You can't kill the blue bloods like that.

tigers didn't just beat those teams, they embarrassed them on national TV. no way that goes unpunished.

& the powers that be steered cal to UK. I'll forever look at that timeframe where tiger basketball could have become the dominant force of the 21st century.

A lot of breaks and a lot of poor coaching on our part. Although it was, by far, the worst loss in Tiger history, I’ve always had to tip my hat to Kansas for their tenacity and never-give-up attitude.

DeCourcy said our run through those three games and 38 minutes of Championship game was the most dominant run in NCAA CBB history.

I still get sick to my stomach everytime I think of that game. Most of the game, I was like omgosh we are going to be NCAA basketball champs for the first time ever. Then those couple of minutes, I sat there in disbelief and literally cried my eyes out for hours. (Sorry i'm a female.)

If I remember correctly, Kansas was a missed 3 pointer away from a similar outcome vs Coach Cal's only NC at UK. Kansas rallied in the last few minutes / seconds and had a chance to tie late.
