I'll give it 10-13 years, but the ACC will host at least one tourney in Chicago.

Don't think so.

If you think the NC teams resisted an ACC Tournament in NYC, imagine how the MidWest B1G teams feel about this.

I'm sure they're fine with it. There are a lot of alumni in that area and a lot of recruits.

this is why the ACC needs to stop dicking around with greensboro. if you don't take full advantage of your east coast resources the b10 will.

They're not going to be great with it. There are a lot of B10 fans that still dislike PSU being in the conference, and downright are appalled at MD and RU.

I think the big 10 needs a new commissioner, somebody who isn't from NJ and a UNC grad obsessed with the east coast/big 10 union and getting certain ACC school's into the big 10.

I dont think anyone from the ACC is in a position to criticize the commish of the b10 (of all conferences)

I think he's trying to ensure the long term financial success of the Big Ten by making it biregional. (Maybe triregional down the road if he ever has his way.) The additions of RU and UMD, the addition of Johns Hopkins in lacrosse, the Pinstripe Bowl deal, the Big Ten Big East Gavitt Tipoff and now the one off use of the Verizon Center for the basketball tournament all point to leveraging all the alumni of Big Ten schools in the Northeast Corridor. Its really no different than what the ACC has tried to do since 2003 first with the BC, VT, Miami additions and then with the Pitt, Cuse and ND additions. Obviously Louisville was not part of that plan but it was nonetheless a very very smart pickup.

Gotta agree...need to take advantage of the entire East Coast...from Boston, NYC, DC, Atlanta along with the Carolina sites....

Why plural? Charlotte should suffice.

Why not throw Orlando/Tampa/Miami in there as well? What about Philadelphia?

I think a main rotation of DC/NYC is best with the occasional stop at other locations.

The reality is that after those two cities any other location is a steep downgrade. That is where the ACC needs to focus in an attempt to prevent the b10 from forming a regular rotation in those locations.

Not really a fan of east coast tournaments for the Big Ten, but understand the reasons. I think they will really only work if they are the exception not the rule though. A lot fewer fans are going to be willing to travel to the east coast for the conference tournament regularly than go to Indianapolis/Chicago which were in driving distance for most schools. The novelty of it will help if it's on occasion, but I think once every 4-5 years is plenty.

Note: Fewer fans willing to travel does not necessarily mean fewer tickets sold. It can also mean less expensive tickets instead.

Totally agree on ACC Using East Coast resources to the Maximum. Great exposure even in SEC territory. Priceless.

That's not possible to do though. There's only one ACC Tournament a year. You are not going to stop the Big Ten every year, especially when it only wants it occasionally.

I think for both conferences though there are compelling reasons for rotations with the traditional locations as the core. The heart of the Big Ten is more in Indianapolis/Chicago and the ACC is in the Mid-Atlantic. Those cities will go all out for the Big Ten/ACC Tournaments and will become the focal point for them for a week in a way that will likely never be true for New York and a Washington (ACC is stronger in New York than the Big Ten, but it's never going to be North Carolina in support).

Just as importantly, you want to give opportunities for a lots of different fans to come as they can develop into donating alumni. That means you often want a more central location for both.

Whether you like it or not Greensboro will always have a spot....no issue with Philadelphia...Boston, NYC, DC, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Charlotte, Orlando and Miami...

Does anyone else completely not care where the Big Ten holds its tourney? I'm pretty confident that some of you are freaking out over nothing.

+1. As long as the ACC doesn't ignore NYC for basketball it should be fine.
