Only been to San Antonio once. But, I agree with their ranking. Since most of those brave men who died at the Alamo came from Tennessee along with the revered Sam Houston, I Look forward to MT matching up with UTSA in the future.

San Antonio is a great and friendly city. I just got back from there. I was on a vacation with my family. I look forward to our game at the Alamodome.

That's a valid question. I'm wondering how Fort Worth made it, too.

If cityies were to be excluded based on all individual experiences, no city would be safe.
I guarantee there are people out there that wouldn't put San Antonio on the list.

RE: OT: San Antonio 3rd Friendliest City in USA
There was one troubling thing about San Antonio I noticed while I was there. I didn't see anyone wearing UTSA stuff. I saw one guy wearing a UTEP hat, three people, other than myself, wearing North Texas shirts, several Longhorn shirts and hats, and some A&M, Houston, and Tech stuff. I know I spent most of my time in the tourist areas (Alamo, Spanish missions, River Walk, and the market), but is there any plan to increase the visibility of UTSA's athletic program in those areas of town?

Two years ago we made a trip to the southeast and we stopped at Savannah first and then Charleston SC second and I have to agree with the rating. The people were very, very nice. Truthfully, being Hispanic I thought I would see a bit of racism but I was very surprised that I did not see any at all. Kudos to those two cities.
The most racist city is Phoenix, and that's a surprise because my people settled the area first. Oh well, Phoenix is too hot and there's nothing spectacular about it anyway. For a desert landscape I might as well stay here. LOL

About 95% of the people that visit the Alamo or Missions are not from SA. Most anyone from SA that ever visited the missions [the Alamo included ) only did so with school field trips or to accompany an out of town guest. The Riverwalk has more natives there, but again, we are vastly out numbered by tourist or conventioners. UTSA is out in a residential area, and thats where you see more of the decals and flags displayed. The only time you see downtown flooded with UTSA spirit is during gamedays.

I've been to Savannah half a dozen times and I'm not surprised they are on the list. Sounds like you had a bad experience.
15 years ago Charlotte would have been on the list but all of the Yankees have put a dent in the southern hospitality of our city.

Savannah, GA is one of the biggest farces with regards to cities in the United States. It is a complete marketing gimmick. The reality is that despite tourists visiting to eat deep-fried butter at Paula Deen's restaurant...the city spends below national average on per-student spending for schools, has a 7.2% unemployment rate, and 1 in 236 people in Savannah, GA is the victim of a violent crime.

The article said friendliest city, what does school spending and the unemployment rate with how friendly people are? You may have a point with the crime statistic but San Antonio has a higher rate per 100,000 residents per the FBI:

Not sure how a city filled with history is a marketing gimmick. Do you feel the same about Charleston or St. Augustine?
As I stated before, I've been on 6 separate occasions throughout my life and the people have always been friendly each time.

RE: OT: San Antonio 3rd Friendliest City in USA
I can't speak to the friendliness of most people in San Antonio. But I want nothing to do with Spurs fans. During Katrina when San Antonio took the Saints in. They made a push to steal my team. Outside of their city hall they had a saints flag with the S and A in saints highlighted....to indicate San Antonio Saints. Then even after the saints returned to New Orleans they had a thread on the spurs message board trying to predict the next hurricane that would wipe out New Orleans so San Antonio could have the saints. I don't believe it still exists but it was a 100+ page thread that went on for over a year. I never could post on that board because my registration as Saint Greg was never approved...and this is my name on every board. After college I was trying to get a job and move to San Antonio because my experience was in military intelligence and the air intelligence agency is there and a lot of good civil service jobs are there but barring Tech being in the Alamo Bowl, I don't believe I'll ever visit San Antonio again.....Raider fan beware

Been to SA numerous times and always enjoyed my visit. Felt safe, people seemed friendly. I could walk for miles on the riverwalk and around the Alamo.
Been to Savannah and Charleston, SC. Botrh are very nice towns. Charleston, SC is a great city and I could move there in a heartbeat.
Worst Cities I have been to - Detroit, Dayton, St. Louis, Memphis, Jacksonville - not impressed by any of those cities. I wouldn't let me dog live in Detroit or St. Louis. jmo.

So, do they smile and then shoot you? Or shoot you and then smile?
I realize that what you say is true because at one point we were in a low income part of the city and they weren't very friendly but also they weren't impolite. But what you say may be correct.
Both times I've been in SA I've feared for my life. I was in the military both times. One time this homeless looking guy threatened my buddy and me with his gun. He took it out and then was rummaging through his shirt pockets for the bullets. I guess he was taught gun use by Barney Fife. We ran as fast as we could and then we had others behind us doing the same. The second time I went to the restroom at a dance club and a fight was brewing and this guy with a large knife was talking a fight with someone. I left, stage right.

So let me get this straight... You encountered a homeless man rummaging through his shirt pockets for bullets, who was taught gun use by Barney Fife, while you were military-trained and with your buddy, and you feared for your life? As a military brat and strong supporter of the military, thanks for your service, but seriously?!? I suppose that with Barney Fife skills, it would've been an even fight if he had brought his gun to that knife fight in the bathroom.
I lived in San Antonio for about 10 years and never once feared for my life, never encountered anyone rummaging for bullets, and never saw any knife fights. I did volunteer work in the "Barrio" while a student at UTSA and shortly after, and never even felt threatened there either. Hell, I've lived in and around Houston for about 13 years now and have never even encountered anything like that here. I don't know what sorts of places you frequent but I guess some people find themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time, and apparently have little faith in their military training either for that matter. Everyone I know in San Antonio loves it there.
