for whatever reason alot of my fellow App fans love the cartoon yosef on the side on the helmets, personally I think its an embarrassment to the University I love, if you want to put it on the pants, or shoulder pads, fine, but not on the helmets, makes us look like a joke to other schools, hard to take us seriously with that cartoon on our helmets. Stick with the block A, quit that cartoon crap.

That's more or less what I was saying.

I think this is the logo that NMSU should be using. To me, it's much more simplified, and honestly... much cooler.
That's a lot better.
Its a shame they can't use the sun symbol from the New Mexico flag. I think the New Mexico flag is one of the best state flags in the country. NMSU does use it in their seal, but they probably would run into Native American issues if they tried to incorporate it into an athletic logo.
I agree, the Zia would be the perfect athletic logo for NMSU. We have used it in a modified logo some in the recent past - but not just the Zia by itself. And as you indicated NMSU has used it on the academic side before. Not sure why it would be an issue to use it for all athletic teams - it could even be stylized to be different than the Native American symbol if that is an issue.
It's unique to the state New Mexico, very recognizable, and looks good(and UNM doesn't use it).
Seems like a perfect fit to me - but NMSU officials apparently don't agree.

Any guess as to the colors of these former Southland Conference teams? The photo looks to be from the late 1970s with the Adidas-looking cleats.
The former club football uniform looked a little decent, even with the dark orange added. The blue is a little off. That is pretty much the extent of UTA football for now. UTA vs UNO, 2009:

The stAte helmet with the rocker under the A was used from 1980 to approximately 1987 I think.
This UTA helmet was around 80-81 I think.
We played in Arlington in both 1980 and 1981 so it is probably one of those two games.

Best:
- Troy - Hands down. Dig the colors, dig the logo (the shield), to me it looks clean and sharp.
- stAte - I like the matte black helmet with the black uniforms. Logo is simple, easy to "doodle" and clearly represents the school.
- App State - I just like the Yosef guy. I think he's cool.
Worst:
- Georgia State - I just don't like the color, and the panther is (in my opinion) HORRIBLE. I don't like just the GSU on the helmet either.
- Georgia Southern - I don't know who used it first, but Alabama kinda cornered the market on the "blue collar" look (even though they are red... go figure), so to me it comes off as plain. I also want to see the school name on the jersey, and the school logo on the helmet.
- USA - I don't like the Jaguar on the helmet, I don't like that it says "Jaguars" instead of South Alabama on the jersey.
Truthfully, Georgia Southern & USA aren't very bad. I just needed two others to even out the list.
But to me, Georgia State's uniforms are just flat out BAD.
First of all the old helmets (2012 and before) had the Jaguar head on it. The new helmets (2013) has "Jags" on each side separated by a blue stripe down the center. Secondly, you will dislike our uniforms even more after you visit Ye Olde Ladd this year. Go Jaguars.

RE: Best looking SBC football uniforms
Two of the App fans in here are two of the five who hate the Corn Cob Pipe Yosef. Too bad every apparel store that stocked merch with that logo sold more than any other logo with a limited release.
We (as in me and many other App fans) like the logo because it's ours. Not some template design from some uppity New York company. It's crude, it's politically incorrect and it's gangster FTW.
As far as a history of alternate uniforms.
2008 (Jerry Moore 20th Anniversary Throwbacks)
2009 (Alternates, popped up again in 2011)
2010 (Nike Pro Combats)
2012 (Vintage Yosef Nike Throwbacks)
2013's Alternate was the gray uniform already posted earlier in this thread.
Basically, our uniform tradition is change. Here's what recruits are seeing this spring.

Cartoon Yosef was previously rejected years ago by a large percentage of students and alums.
Something different normally sells well. You could have a Mickey Mouse Yosef and
it would sell. The true popularity will show one way or the other over the next few years.
In the meantime wish they would do away with the profile and give the guy some hair
and a snarl.

I'm surprised at the disdain over a secondary logo used on an alternate helmet.
Also, not everyone (including myself) views it as "cartoon crap." I'm not ashamed of the school's history. But, that's just me. I support Victory Yosef!

RE: Best looking SBC football uniforms
This version of Yosef was rejected by a prior administration over 15 years, not the fans. You know the administration many fans believe held App athletic back.
The 1998 Yosef with no beard was the one rejected by alums and students. He made one appearance at the Auburn game and the backlash was significant.
Shortly after this beardless Yosef was canned, App brought in a firm to design the prior secondary Yosef (coming out of a mountain). They basically took UTC's Moc design and recycled it. The fanbase was split on that design. It was a shame that ESPN used that logo vs. the Block A, which has been the primary logo for nearly 30 years.
The new/vintage Yosef is a hot ticket with all ages of App fans and has been for three years now. The players and recruits don't seem to mind it either.
Whether you like it or not the market will dictate its use. So far vintage Yosef has been widely accepted by those buying merchandise.

This is about as fancy as we get...Military Appreciate Day jerseys from a couple of years ago...
And then the super throwbacks to the 30's Georgia Teachers College Blue Tide...
But nothing beats the plain and simple...

Just to note: I wouldn't call that last picture an Alternate uniform as we never have used it before and was meant for a one time Throwback appearance when we were GA Teachers College. I know it might have been labeled that way, I just don't want people to think that we wear it from time to time or anything. I do think it is cool though, especially the helmet.
I also think that nothing beats our traditional actual BLUE collar look.
We have built recognition for it. I actually think that its simplicity makes it is easier to build recognition for it. When you see an "A" (as an example) on a helmet, unless you already know who it is - a person would have to think "now who is this" - Arkansas? Arizona, App State? ..... True that no letters don't even give a hint that way - but they aren't going to figure it out by the letters alone anyway - (Unless it is all spelled out which looks bad to me). The point being that there are a bunch of schools they could get the A mixed up with, but only a few going straight plain and simple. Nobody is going to think we are BAMA unless they are watching in Black/White. And Penn state doesn't even have numbers on the side (plus they actually change the color of the collar to contrast the jersey). I'd say we are pretty recognizable and well become even more so in the FBS.

Our uniforms fit in with our other traditions of riding to the game in surplus school buses, transforming a drainage ditch into Beautiful Eagle Creek, and becoming the most storied program in I-AA history when a great number of people claimed we could not build a program. As we expand the stadium we could never build and complete the FOC building we would never be able to fund, we take our plain uniforms that recruits won't like to FBS to play games no one attend with the vain hope of winning conference championships, bowls, and punching the P5 in the mouth every chance we get. I know we're delusional, but we just won't go away and the foundations upon which our program was built will always be visible.

This is Georgia Southern in summary. Don't tell us we can't or won't do something. We'll make it happen.
