"Virginia Beach, Va. – The Virginia Beach city council voted unanimously Tuesday evening to approve a non-binding agreement for the new entertainment and sports arena at the Oceanfront."
Still say its going to be a tough draw at the very end of the cul de sac. The Norva had to make the nicest venue of its size in the entire country to get some of the acts it is able to draw, and still many bypass us. This is located for tourists and convention goers, not locals, and as a result runs the risk of being empty a lot. Would love to see the CUSA tournament there though if it happens.

Once UConn leaves the AAC they wont fill half the building either. Temple, ECU, Richmond, GMU and VCU together wont fill it. The rest wont bring enough to matter. If VCU gets knocked out early the place wont be 25% filled. Doesn't matter though, the tourney has to be held somewhere. And CUSA wouldn't fill it any better than the A10.
The big problem is that it will take LOTS of advertising dollars away from the Ted. Not acts...because they are looking for a diferent level with 18,000...but cooperate ad dollars will take a hit.

Meh. If the Ted loses any advertisers it will just provide new ad. ops. for different companies. As long as it's an attractive option (ticket sales) it will continue to pull in ad dollars.
If light rail would extend to the Arena and if ODU were to ever be in the rails loop it would be a big help.
It could help or be a catalyst in the future for ODU to get a look or invite into the AAC. Would be an attractive option and selling point for basketball in the future. An 18,000 seat, state of the Art Arena in VA Beach, which is absolutely a perfect destination location will be very attractive to the AAC. Midway on the Atlantic Coast which is centric and an ideal travel location for Temple, UCONN, ECU, ODU, Navy, UCF, USF, Memphis, Cincinnati and even Tulane.......would be a fans dream! The Texas schools along with Tulsa would be the outliers (closer than NYC or DC).
We would also have other factors that would make ODU/Norfolk/VA Beach attractive for NCAA and College Basketball Tournaments, and that is the availability of the TED and the new basketball practice facility on campus.

That's if you believe the VB amphitheater is a tough draw. You should compare it with a venue that has a capacity somewhere in the ball park.
