MAC Championship: Men's golf
MAC Men's Golf Championship--Live Scoring

The men's tourney is 72 holes. I believe there are two rounds today and then one round each on Saturday and Sunday.

KSU is going for its sixth straight championship, but unlike the women's tourney, this one has several teams who could win it. It is being played Prairie View GC in Carmel, IN, hosted by UT.

Pretty sweet way to track things, both individually and by team result.

RE: MAC Championship: Men's golf
Akron and EMU lead after one round. Both were 4-under. KSU was 2-under, Ball St. was 4-over par, UT 5-over and BG 8-over. The rest are well back.

KSU came out firing in the second round which is about half over. Flashes are 9-under in the 2nd round, 11-under for the tourney with a 5 shot lead on Akron. EMU is 5 back of Akron.

How is UT hosting this tournament, when its in Indiana? We have a world championship golf course two blocks away from UT that just recently hosted the National Championship. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

I doubt Inverness would be available very often for a 3-day conference tourney like this. They have hosted much bigger events when they have college tourneys. I believe the conference contracts with the courses they use and the hosting duties rotate.

RE: MAC Championship: Men's golf
Flashes head to Illinois for NCAA Regional at site of 2012 MAC Championship.

NIU hosted the 2012 Championship at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, IL (fifty miles west of Chicago).

Quote:The Flashes hope they can also draw on some positive memories from their runaway win (40 strokes) in the 2012 MAC Championship. Seniors Corey Conners, Taylor Pendrith and Kyle Kmiecik were sophomores when Kent State shot 9-under-par (283-281-291–855) on the 7,735-yard, par-72 course located 50 miles west of Chicago. Conners won the individual MAC crown that week at 7-under-par while Pendrith finished in eighth place.

"Does that help us? I think it could," said Page. "We've played it. We've seen it. Corey was the medalist there. Taylor and Kyle both played well there. It's the same grass we play on here in Kent. All of those are in our favor, but the bottom line is you have to go out and play under tremendous pressure. As a coach, this is the most pressure you have all year long."

Hopefully the Flashes can make some noise at the NCAA championships this year! I know that Kent has done well in some past NCAA golf tournaments..what is their best finish? I am pretty sure they have at least one top 10 in there.

RE: MAC Championship: Men's golf
The Flashes have a 6th and a 5th in the NCAA Championships in the last several years. Not sure about this year. Our top two are as good as any pair in the country, but the next three are a bit inexperienced at this level. If they can get out of the Regional, you just never know.
