Obama & enviromentalists responsible for huge James River oil spill
http://www.newsadvance.com/news/local/oi...b2370.html

American media at it's best - Headline of "One Huge Mess", story reads virtually no damage.

If Obama had signed the Keystone pipeline into law, North Dakota wouldn't have been shipping our crude to China via rail. Blame this spill on the environmentalists.

Quote:By late afternoon Thursday, cleanup crews on the banks of the James River were slowly hauling up the first of three oil tankers that were sent tumbling into the river in Wednesday’s train derailment

The state announced it’s estimating that 20,000 to 25,000 gallons of crude oil were released from the tankers that hit the water when a train derailed in downtown Wednesday afternoon.

This cuts in half an initial estimate released by [Gov Terrence McAuliffe] in the immediate wake of the crash. It remains unclear how much of the oil burned up in the fire that ignited, and how much worked its way into the river.

Crews and machinery were crawling along the banks of the river all Thursday as respondents worked to right the 13 overturned rail cars that had been carrying crude oil from North Dakota to Yorktown [China] .

One huge mess
Oil estimates reduced, but lengthy cleanup, probe ahead

Quote:“When you see massive oil spills in other parts of the world, it was not that. It was a reflection. It had the shine of some hydrocarbons. It wasn’t a very big issue,” Brunkow said.

Bill Hayden, DEQ spokesman, said he saw sheen about nine miles from Lynchburg on Thursday.

He said the oil had stuck together at that point, but may gradually be breaking up. He said there’s not much to be done except let it dissipate.

Hope they have that mess contained. That spill occured upstream for our water source.

Most of it burned off.

The rest was quickly washed downstream due to high waters. Lynchburg is virtually clean - I had the boat out below the spill yesterday catching clean and healthy smallmouth... saw no signs of a spill.

Yeah, I just looked outside my office window and the James River is massively swollen this morning. Guess that's a good thing given the oil spill.

Bump.

I'm surprised you guys would let this go so easily. The refusal to build the Keystone XL is the reason the endless oil trains are taking our oil to port, and in this case dumping crude in our river.

Nah, Obama has NOTHING to do with gas prices... right RedwingTom?

C'mon Jerry. for these folks the only answer is to eliminate the usage of oil. They won't connect the dots to the pipeline. They will only get to "oil = bad"

They would have us go back to living in caves except then we'd have to burn wood and that's bad as well. I guess we can just go back to living prior to the invention of fire.
